Hello World! Thank you for joining us, We are the Co-owners and founders of Ultra Arcade, Brandon Alexander and David Ruben. We are here to tell you about what we have in store for Ultra Arcade and the gaming community at large. When you have a second, see what Shoryuken.com had to say about Ultra Arcade:
What is Ultra Arcade? We are a brand new video game arcade located in San Antonio, TX. We promote a fun, friendly, and exciting environment. This is a very healthy outlet for men, women, and children of all ages and walks of life. At Ultra you can enjoy the newest video game titles, socialize, compete, work on your skills, and attend exciting events. We also have a fully stocked snack bar and FREE high speed WiFi for all the community to use. And the best part is you get to enjoy all these great games for only $5. If you're looking for a place to have a great time or just a spot to chill and do some homework Ultra Arcade is the place to be. We have everything a good arcade should have and we are just getting started.
An Arcade? Do those things still exist? We feel like a new age of the arcade is dawning and we decided to go all in to support the cause! Our first hand experience in the local gaming gatherings showed us very clearly that there was an overwhelming hunger for a real Arcade. After all most people will tell you that the arcades are an endangered species, we are here to ensure they don't go extinct on our watch!
For the moment Ultra Arcade is doing pretty good with what we have. But we have a few issues… every arcade could always use more games but more than anything we need SPACE! We've got the right idea going here but we need more space for us to truly spread our wings. In our defense we started small for a good reason. We wanted to ensure the arcade could survive in the harshest environment and with minimal support. Well…now we regret it! The community is showing so much support that we are maxed out on space. We are going to maximize this location but soon we will need more room to grow. If we continue to do well, who knows, an Ultra Arcade might just pop up in a city near you. What, you thought we wanted all the glory for the south?
So how will your contribution affect Ultra Arcade? It will be used to create the ultimate gaming experience found in only a few places in the US and then help it spread like wild fire. What do you want at your dream arcade? What kind of equipment? What type of atmosphere? What types of events? If you can dream it, we want to achieve it. And we want you to have convenient access to it at an affordable price. Anything we can do to make this place the affordable gaming paradise any gamer can enjoy. Here is a short list of upgrades we plan on making:
-A complete remodel and renovation of the kitchen and bathroom to best serve our patrons.
-Adding top of the line gaming equipment.
-MORE SPACE! We are going to maximize our building by adding a patio and other additions outside to allow for more gaming and to make our arcade a great place to hang out in.
-Cabinets -Pinball Machines
-Videogames and Consoles
-Gaming Equipment: (arcade sticks, controllers, headphones and more)
-Tournament standard gaming monitors -
And anything else we or the our fans think would be a great idea!
Risks and challenges
An Arcade, Whats that?
If you're not already aware, arcades on the decline right now. True stand alone arcades are becoming very rare in the united states these days. In Japan the arcade scene is amazing and thriving but in the US the situation is bleak. Lets examine why. Let me fill you in a little so we can understand the real challenge here.
Lets start with a few questions. When is the last time you went to an arcade? Whats the nearest stand alone arcade to you? Is there even one within 100 miles? We're not talking about a dave & busters or chuckie cheese. Not an restaurant/arcade geared toward children but instead true arcade made for and by the hardcore gamer. For most people the answer is no. The reason for this that those types of combo restaurant/bar/arcades charge much higher prices and make much more money. They also cater to a specific audience, children, whose parents can afford to pay those high prices. But hardcore gamers want to play everyday, and they don't usually have the disposable income to spend even $10 or $20 a day on something they can do from home.
As a business in today economy its hard to survive charging low prices without having plenty volume. This is the main challenge we face. How do we make it worth while for lots of people to come out and pay to do something they can basically do from home?
Well first lets establish that you CANNOT recreate the arcade experience at home. But there are a few different solutions to try and ensure the arcade experience is very different, worthwhile, and more fun than home gaming. First we need to maintain a safe friendly inviting environment for newcomers. Next we have to offer variety and make it an exciting environment. Once we have their attention we need to continue evolving and keep them interested. Keep things fresh. We have to continue throwing more and more events and constantly add to and update our library. Simple enough, but wait there is a catch. It has to be affordable. This is why we have chosen a location that is central and can at the very least survive with the low price of only $5 per day per person. We are also working on membership plans to add more value for our more loyal and frequent patrons.
The generational gap
Our next big challenge is to bridge the gap between the arcades of old and the technology and scene of the present. Today most people in the US play video games online in the comfort of their own home. This is nice and has its place but there in nothing like the rush you get playing in an arcade with your friends. Younger people that have grown up in this environment have never experienced an arcade as we remember them from the golden age of arcades. As we see it the main challenge we face is trying to re-build the arcade scene back to what it once was. We have to reconnect people with that feeling that only playing in a real arcade can give you. That adrenaline rush you get from a little friendly competition.
To do this we must give newcomers more exposure to the excitement of the casual and competitive scenes through strategic promotion. We will promote heavily online and on the ground, as well as throw exciting events to attract as many gamers as possible, young and old, men and women alike. United we can grow this community and revitalize the old american past time that we all enjoy so much.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
