What is Ether Rpg?
Ether Rpg is a roleplaying game built upon the genres of fantasy, steampunk, dieselpunk & cyberpunk as well as being supported by post-apocalyptic & dystopic themes.
Ether Rpg primarily focuses on the genre of steampunk (think Howl's Moving Castle, Dishonored, Van Helsing, or The Time Machine). Steampunk is defined by its alternate view of technological change (or lack thereof) of 19th century Victorian Europe. Instead of gasoline, steam & retro-futuristic machines which generate power in esoteric ways drive the industrial revolution of the world.
It also utilizes the genre of dieselpunk (think Suckerpunch, Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow, The Rocketeer, or Bioshock). Dieselpunk is the next stage in evolution of steampunk & is characterized by the sharp & sleek military trappings of the World Wars.
And it takes a nod from the genre of cyberpunk (think Ghost in the Shell, Blade Runner, Shadowrun, or Deus Ex). Cyberpunk is often considered the original "punk" genre & focuses on technologically-advanced, although dystopic, futures.
Didn't you also mention Fantasy?
Absolutely. In Ether Rpg, players have the capacity to use many of the staples of the fantasy setting (such as magic & alchemy) & the quintessential machines of the various "punk" genres.
Staples? So, like, elves & such too?
Actually, no. Ether Rpg might fit into the same genre as other fantasy games, but it strays from many of the classical species found in your typical fantasy RPG.
Instead of the usual fare, players can expect to control shapeshifters, living plants, monstrous descendants, spell eaters & many other unusual beings.
Sweet! So I can have a magical machine gun right? Right?
Actually, when magic & machinery mix... things explode. They're something like opposite ends of the magnet & work against one another.
Machinery runs on a still-misunderstood energy source, while magic draws its strength from the life-force of its caster. And not everyone is capable of using one or the other.
The world of Ether Rpg has a particular focus upon the concept of balance & counterbalance. When something comes into being that shouldn't, something else comes into being to counteract it.
I heard Apocalypse, I know I did!
You really did. Ether Rpg is set in a period shortly after a war between... you guessed it... magic & machinery.
Residual fractures in reality threaten everyone's lives. The planes have spilled into one another. Dimensional creatures run rampant in the wilds. Cities lie in ruins.
And the rebuilding has just begun...

Okay, so what kind of game is Ether Rpg?
Ether Rpg is a tactical system designed to put players in situations where kicking down the door & charging headlong into battle isn't the wisest of ideas. The use of terrain, planning an ambush & catching a foe off guard can mean the difference between life & death.
Ether Rpg's damage system can be exceedingly lethal right from game start. And while combat has the capacity to be complex (although it need not be), it can also be over in the blink of an eye.
Character generation is reasonably non-linear. There are few assigned properties that a character must have & players are free to design their characters however they prefer, ranging from a walking chainsaw to a smooth negotiator.
Combat is often an inevitability in RPGs, but Ether Rpg is also designed to accommodate players who wish to focus on other aspects of a character such as diplomacy or investigation.
Okay, so it's a RPG. What do I need to play?
Well, the books. Obviously.
BESIDES the books, wise guy...
Ether Rpg uses a d20 as its primary die & is supported by almost every other standard fantasy die in secondary rolls (d4, d6, d8, d10 & d12).
As a tactical system, we also recommend using miniatures.
Oh, it uses The d20 System then?
No, no it does not.
Ether Rpg certainly uses a d20 as its primary die & makes use of a skill-based system, but it does not make use of THE d20 System.
Need more information?
And here, happens to be a convenient video where I give a brief overview of:
The Character Sheet
The Die System
And, if you're interested, there's also a video showing:
And three more videos discussing some of the highlights of Ether Rpg in (a little) more depth:
Races & Classes!
The Book Itself!
And you might be wondering...
So, what do the Ether Rpg books actually look like? Well, they're presently in the hands of my production team & are on their way to my printer. In the meantime...
I have a render from my graphic artist of what the book's cover art is planned to look like!
I hope to get several physical copies in during the course of the kickstarter so I can do a grand "Unboxing" video & show you exactly what the books will look like (in their prototype state).
And the moment that happens... I'll be uploading a video & link it right here on Kickstarter for your viewing pleasure!

Signatures (aka Create-Your-Own) Rules!
Backers selecting any of the Tiers which allow them to submit concepts to Clockwork Angel Studios can expect us to refine, edit, finalize & incorporate your submissions into our books, however certain limitations apply:
Backers will be provided with copyright release forms that must be completed before Clockwork Angel Studios will accept submissions of any kind (sorry folks, it's got to happen for legal reasons).
Backers may not submit material that would violate a pre-existing copyright or trademark [no, you cannot ask me to add The Doctor (Who) to Ether Rpg].
Submissions cannot be explicit (keep it PG people).
While Clockwork Angel Studios hereby promises to work with backers to the best of our ability to put imaginations to paper, we cannot guarantee that every idea will be acceptable & backers must keep their submissions within reason & within the genre bounds of Ether Rpg (this means that steampunk & fantasy submissions are just fine, but please don't request that I add starships).
Finally, Clockwork Angel Studios hereby promises to provide backers with preliminary mock-ups of backer submissions as the material is finalized (we will absolutely SHOW you what we've done with what you've provided prior to adding it to the books & will make every attempt to find a happy-medium between backer submissions & Clockwork Angel Studios' vision).

Residents of Illinois
Sorry, I live there. So I have to charge state tax & 7.35% is the sales tax for my local municipality. You must include the additional fee in your purchase.
The best price that I could find is via the United States Postal Service. And the best average price I could find is their Flat-Rate Shipping International option.
I'm sorry to say, that the BEST prices I can offer are as follows:
$35.00 for 1 book (in the shipping bag shown below, on the right)
$65.00 for 2-3 books (in the shipping box show below, on the left)
If you're planning on ordering MORE than 3 books, you should contact me before you pay, so I can contact USPS for additional pricing options in an attempt to save you money.
Please note that as of this time, the book itself has yet to actually be printed in physical form. Therefore, the test book I took to the Post Office & inserted into that shipping bag (the one on the right) may or may not be representative of Ether Rpg: Core, once it is hot off the presses. I hope it is. The test book was some 50 pages thicker than my book is, in its present form.
That being said, should problems arise concerning international shipping, I will be forced to contact international backers to let them know what the problem is & why it's occurring. This may result in additional costs and/or refunds.
I want to be as upfront as possible about this, not to discourage purchases, but such that there are no surprises later. I have no intention of misleading backers & I want to make sure everyone is informed of this possibility.
Once we reach our initial goal of $10,000.00 I will absolutely be open to accepting payments via PayPal, but I cannot accept them before that time.
That being said, for purposes of tracking rewards, I cannot accept PayPal payments for any finite Reward Tiers.
Information will be made available once funding has been reached.
Also, since we plan on making use of BackerKit for order fulfillment, the infinite Reward Tiers & Kickstarter prices will be available for a limited time post-campaign, so long as we're funded!
Information will be made available once the campaign has been started and/or has concluded.
Thanks so much everyone,
Jason & Clockwork Angel Studios

Risks and challenges
Most of Ether Rpg's material has been written, tested, edited & finalized prior to the Kickstarter even beginning. However, there's more writing to do...
Coordinating with backers on "Create-Your-Own" material. I won't lie, this is certainly going to be the most difficult & time consuming portion of the work remaining ahead of me.
But so long as our backers work with us & follow the guidelines presented, I'm certain we will make it happen!
Shipping prior to 2017. I want to make that happen. I cannot possibly say, at this time, whether or not it WILL happen. But I'm going to try as best I can to make sure it does happen.
However, I refuse to sacrifice quality for an early shipping date. Ether Rpg will ship when it's done. And not a moment sooner. I want my backers to get the game they paid for, not something I scrambled to put together.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
