And we need your help to make it happen.
In The Dudleys! A Family Game, family memories are brought to life as a malfunctioning 8-bit video game. Vic returns to his childhood home late one night and discovers his old NES. As he plays vintage games from his youth, he starts remembering…and his memories become the game itself. By dodging ghosts, undying zombies, and evil Aunts side-scrolling through the neighborhood, Vic tries to win a game that might not be for winning.

The Dudleys! has had quite journey.
The first big step took place in 2009 in a bank vault on Wall Street, where the first development took place through a space grant from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. We used the grant to focus on bringing the chip tune music and 8-bit video animations together with the script. It culminated in a 3-day workshop and the creation a large body of visual elements that were integral to the play.
In 2010 we took it to the next level with a workshop as part of the Dream Up Festival at Theatre for a New City. The workshop was awarded a Talkin’ Broadway Summer 2010 Citation for Outstanding New Play
One critic wrote “Both as an innovative work of multimedia/multi-disciplinary theatre and an incisive and introspective exploration of the frail human condition, The Dudleys! has much to offer audiences. It's one of the most exciting theatre experiences I've had this year.” (NY Theatre)
Then in 2011 Tutto Theatre in Austin, Texas produced the most realized workshop of the play to date. It was a fantastic experience and the workshop production won 8 B. Iden Payne Awards, including Outstanding Original Script, Outstanding Sound Design, Outstanding Production, Outstanding Media Design, Outstanding Original Score, Outstanding Direction, Outstanding Cast Performance, Outstanding Dance Choreography.
This version brought more technical elements into play and we were able to perform the piece for a 3-week run.
In 2012 The Dudleys! was selected as part of the Alec Baldwin fellowship at the Singers Forum. The script and story took great strides forward during this development program and set us up for our current production.
And now in 2016, we are building on the years of development to produce The Dudleys! for a month-run at HERE Arts Center in October 2016 and to bring the next level of technology to the production so that the 8-bit world can be more fully realized.
Under the guidance of projection designer Reid Farrington, we are enhancing and broadening the visual design of the production using projection mapping, which uses multiple projectors to project animations onto three-dimensional objects, thus giving the illusion of an animated 3D object and allowing the 8-bit world to fully encompass the stage.
This is very exciting for us and will allow us to immerse the audience even further into the reality of the game, as well as incorporate the gaming aspect of the play more dynamically into the story. It will make the whole audience experience AWESOME.
BUT it costs $$. Multiple projectors, designers, programmers, equipment and space. Not to mention the team of actors and designers beyond the video technology.
Making theatre is expensive.
Making theatre in NYC is even more expensive.
Making theatre in NYC with 6 projectors and a team of 25+ artists and production folks is nearly impossible.
That's why we need YOUR help. Why we need you to be a part of something big and ambitious -- allowing a tiny company like Loading Dock to reach for something gigantic and actually grab onto it.

Risks and challenges
We are an experienced theatre company and are capable of seeing The Dudleys! fully realized. As in our previous productions, we have very talented actors, designers and production staff working the top of their game to bring this project to life. We are incredibly proud of the work we have done so far and are excited about seeing The Dudleys! fully realized.
It's going to be freakin' awesome. But we need your help now to raise the funds to reach the "freak" in "freakin awesome." ANY amount you can donate to this ambitious piece would be FANTASTIC.
