The Rye Arts Center’s Mission
Founded in 1960, The Rye Arts Center is a community based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to inspire interest and maximum participation in the arts in Westchester and surrounding regions. The Rye Arts Center offers a wide-variety of events and classes designed to nurture creativity for all ages and abilities. Our center is open year round and is committed to offering programs that are characterized by artistic tradition, educational value, and a spirit of innovation.
Our STEM+Arts Education Program
Innovation is the key! Funds raised through Kickstarter will be used to “kickstart” a unique fusion of innovative and new programming to build skills for 21st century artists and designers that combines the Arts with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEAM). Integrating technology into the arts to offer STEM+Arts classes is the new frontier of creative expression and design.
At the end of January 2014,The RAC launched a curriculum of STEM+Arts programs at The RAC, including Maker Maniacs, Maker Week holiday camp, digital architecture with Google Sketchup, Art and Engineering with littleBits, Maker Maniacs, Minecraft club, engineering with Lego/KNEX and MaKey MaKey. These classes are just the beginning of a new STEAM curriculum that we are calling the Maker Movement. Response has been overwhelmingly positive among children, youth, adults, and eductors. Adding a 3D printer will allow us to expand STEAM programming to include 3D printing classes, possibly as early as this summer.
Why we need your help
Funds raised through this Kickstarter campaign will enable The Rye Arts Center to: purchase 3D MakerBot printers, hire and train instructors in STEAM curriculum, buy materials and software for 3D classes and help provide classes for children in need who otherwise would not be able to participate in these cutting edge STEAM programs.
Having 3-D printers and design software allows The Rye Arts Center to offer the next generation of young creative innovators the ability to design their own imaginative objects and then watch their creations come to life in three-dimensions.
With funds generated through this Kickstarter campaign, you will help us meet the challenge of offering cutting edge technology and opportunities to youth.
Any size donation will mean the world to our non-profit organization. This project is our gateway to providing innovation in art education, and it will be all because of you! Check out our official website and Facebook page at www.ryeartscenter.org. Many thanks for your support of innovative arts education in the community!
Risks and challenges
We plan to offer 3D design and printing classes in Spring and Summer 2014. One challenge will be to find enough instructors trained in these programs to meet demand for children, youth and adult classes.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
