About this project

Amy Rubin is a young reporter stuck writing stories about cute animals for The New Orleans Sentinel newspaper. Victor Marcel is a tourism magnate trying to develop a 600-room hotel on the edge of the French Quarter.  When a freak accident at Marcel's petting zoo puts Amy on the trail of an even bigger story about Marcel's business ventures, Amy's hunt threatens to derail Marcel's big hotel plans.  The story unfolds against the backdrop of an aspiring politician's campaign to abolish the Temple Emanu-El Brotherhood's annual Crawfish Bingo fundraiser, an event you could find only in the Crescent City.

"Funny and lyrical ... reminiscent of Tom Wolfe. The plot moves along with a bounce." -- Adam Braff, internationally renowned screenwriter

"I laughed my ass off." -- Jed Horne, former Metro Editor, The Times-Picayune; author of Breach of Faith: Hurricane Katrina and the Near Death of an American City and Desire Street: A True Story of Death and Deliverance in New Orleans

The novel is written; it just needs some editing.  I'm raising money to pay a cover artist, a copy editor, and a firm that will format the manuscript for the Kindle, Nook, iPad, etc.

A portion of the profits from the published ebook will be donated to the dashTHIRTYdash fund for Times-Picayune newspaper employees laid off because of the owner's decision to quit printing the paper as a daily.

In an ultimate, shameless act of trading my artistic integrity for filthy lucre, I will give one of my characters your first name. I get to choose the character, and it might be a minor one. Given the personality traits of most of the people in this novel, you might not want to do this. I will also list you in the acknowledgments.

I will give a character your first and last name. This might not be a major character, but it might be if your name fits. Again, you probably won't want your name associated with this novel in any way, especially not as a character. But as the novel's fictional hotelier and former parochial schoolboy Victor Marcel would say, "Sua quique voluptas." You will also be in the acknowledgments, so your friends will know that the character is actually named after you by design and not coincidence.
