Ritual is a strategic tile-laying game of magical dominance for two to five players. In Ritual you take on the role of a powerful wizard joining with other wizards to perform an intricate ritual of magic. Being a wizard, you must take this opportunity to prove once and for all that YOU are the best wizard by having the most influence over the ritual at its completion.
Ritual’s simple gameplay, deep strategy and beautiful presentation make it a fun game for beginners and experienced board-gamers alike.
At its heart Ritual is about three things: tiles, runes and influence. Being a tile-laying game, Ritual’s core mechanic revolves around drawing hexagonal tiles one at a time from a common pool known as the ley line and placing them onto the scroll that serves as the board.
Each tile has three parts know as rune pieces. Throughout the game players try to match up identical rune pieces in groups of three known as runes. Runes players create can be activated to cause powerful effects capable of reshaping the board, but such power comes at a cost: influence. Each player gets a set of colored cubes known as influence cubes. These cubes are not only used to activate runes, but also to determine where you can play on the scroll and to tally your final score. Clever use of tiles, runes and influence is essential to winning a game of Ritual.
Advanced ruleset: 6 playable wizards, each with their own unique power!
The base game of Ritual is a complete game. It has everything you need to play with the least confusing, most balanced and most easy to pick up ruleset it can. That being said, we here at DevDiem Studios like both easy to play games and more complicated ones. So, with that in mind, we came up with an idea for an expansion on the original game: an advanced ruleset with 6 playable wizards, each with their own unique power. If we reach double our initial goal (for a total of $90,000) we will add these optional rules in a new rulebook along with 6 unique character cards. These items will be added to every game box for no additional cost!
After several years of board game design we have come to a point where we cannot advance on our own. It turns out that manufacturing a board game is expensive. Doing a minimum size production run is going to cost us upwards of $20,000. Add on top of that another $10,000 for shipping the game from the manufacturer to the distributors and the estimated $15,000 to ship the game to you in addition to Kickstarter fees and taxes.

Ritual is brought to you by DevDiem Studios. We're a mixed bag of diverse skill sets including an ArtCenter College of Design graduate, a Navy veteran, a Minister of Discordianism and a Certified Jack-of-All-Trades. Through trial and error we have discovered that this set of skills gives us what we need to make board games. Yay!

Risks and challenges
Creating a board game is a complex process with many risks and challenges, and Ritual is no exception. To this end we've done as much legwork as we possibly could to minimize risks and overcome challenges before this Kickstarter project even launched. We've looked at every aspect of the project from conceptual design to the 100th time a game is played to ensure that we haven't overlooked any potential issues.
Our single biggest challenge will be ensuring that the product we've envisioned is faithfully reproduced by our overseas manufacturer. This is why we've chosen to go with Panda Game Manufacturing. With a long track record of delivering quality board games for Kickstarter projects, they are a natural fit for our project.
There are many risks we face, particularly in the manufacturing and delivery process. We've done as much as we can to anticipate and schedule for delays, but ultimately these facets of the project will be up to our overseas manufacturer and to our various regional shipping partners. With these things being out of our hands we promise to communicate promptly and with transparency whenever delays occur, and to do everything in our power to resolve the delays as quickly as possible.
