+/- is an award winning annual publication produced by senior Graphic Design and Photography majors at RIT.

Positive/Negative Magazine is an entirely student-created publication released annually. Produced by the Editorial Design and Photography classes at Rochester Institute of Technology's College of Imaging Arts and Sciences, this 100-page, full-color magazine is a collaborative effort that incorporates original articles, design and photography created exclusively for this magazine. We are also creating an iPad version of this magazine, which will be released when the final magazine is complete.

The theme of the magazine being Positive versus Negative provides us with open and unique guidelines for all of our creatives in the class. Each group (made up of one designer and one photographer) will write, photograph and design each article around whatever strikes their interest. The only rule is that each article must represent a positive or a negative view of the chosen story.

This is the first year ever that we have produced this magazine during RIT's Fall Quarter, and we have gotten a great start right out of the gate!

Our content for the magazine is well under way, but we still don't have the funding to print the magazine. That's where we need your help. Your donation will go towards the cost of printing, binding and the cover photo shoots. Help us create something amazing!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Each student is required to work on 3 articles to put into the magazine. These works are criticized and reviewed by the entire class. Uniformity and flow are a huge part of this process. Our class decides which articles make the cut and how the entire magazine is put together. Each year, the class tries something new and innovative with completely original material. No magazine is ever the same.

We have no budget at all. As an exclusively student run project, it is up to us to find the budget to put this all together. Each story is written, designed and photographed within a college student's budget. We need to find funds to print, bind and distribute the magazine.

As a class, we are asked to start from scratch. To make something completely original and impressive. We are not only working on a print magazine, but also an iPad version so that we can reach an even larger audience. Our iPad team is working hard to learn the ins and outs of creating an iPad app, since for most of us, this would be the first interactive magazine we have created!

Getting things in on time is tough under such a strict schedule. We have a group of students who have taken over the task of making sure that our files are formatted properly and ready for print. This is no light responsibility. We are all working beyond the scope of in-class time to create something really memorable that we can be proud of.
