Hi. Thanks for stopping by my Kickstarter page. My name is Pete and I’ve been making films that have documented canoe expeditions into remote regions of the north for a few years now. At first this started off as a creative alternative to the normal photo album. Since then my filmmaking has evolved quite a bit, and right now I am preparing for both my most ambitious filmmaking venture, and my most ambitious canoe adventure ever. So let me tell you a bit about what I envision.
In brief, the Trans-Territorial Canoe Project is a documentary film that will follow four young men on a 135-day, 2600-mile canoe journey across the northern frontier of Canada.
On one level, the film is a documentary on modern day exploration, but on a larger level, the film itself is an exploration into the dynamics of the modern world’s relationship with nature. It seeks to give expression to questions humans have asked since our distant ancestors first looked at the stars or smelled a grove of pines after a rainstorm: what is our relationship to the world, to wilderness? why do we need wild spaces, adventure, freedom? That is, in my humble way, I hope this film will contribute to an evolving vision of wilderness in the modern era.
To give expression and sense to these issues the film will take advantage of the some of the most stunning and pristine areas of North America: the costal mountain ranges of Alaska, the rugged interior of the Yukon, endless forest and lakes that reach far into the horizon, and finally into the treeless tundra, where a sanctuary of wildlife resides near the shores of the Hudson Bay.
Please visit the expedition’s website at www.canoe2012.com to learn more about the adventure, watch previous film projects I have been involved in.
This is a bold and important project, one that ultimately costs little for how important it is. We hope you will become a proud contributor!
Your contribution will go to purchasing camera equipment, extra batteries, memory cards, etc., and editing software for post-production. In addition, money will be used to help defer the cost of travel and other crew equipment.
