We are excited to get started on our Second Album Recording Project, but it will only happen with your support. Groove Witness has been performing around the Chicago area for several years now, at places like Martyrs', Wire, Honky Tonk BBQ, Silvie's Lounge, The Outta Space, and Double Door (RIP). Many of you also supported us in our First Album Recording Project that produced Wandering Soul, released in May 2015. In the time since the release of Wandering Soul, we have written about 15 more original tunes that defy rigid genres but include tastes of funk, soul, jazz, blues, and rock. Now we would like to select a slate of our very best tunes and record them for you (and all posterity) with a high-quality, fully mastered album to delight your ears and enliven your soul!
We will be selecting about 6 instrumental tunes written by the entire band and about 6 vocal tunes written and performed by Veronica Kott with the full band backing her with original arrangements. If funded, we expect to record sometime in winter/early spring (February - April) and have the mixing and mastering finished sometime by May. We would expect final presses of CDs to be ready to send out by June 2018.
We have kept a tight budget and know that we can make a quality album for the very low price of a few thousand dollars. We already have a good start with a band fund full of payments from our live shows, and we have a recording studio lined up. We know how to do this well and efficiently, and we can't wait until you can hear the fruits of our labors. But let's be real! It's not really work...it's a huge amount of fun to play music this rewarding and satisfying.
Please support creative artists making high quality, original music. Be part of something special! The crowd-funding model is a great way to support all kinds of creative projects that would be unlikely to happen otherwise. It's also essentially a way to pre-order the album and ensure that it actually gets made. There are a couple additional rewards you can receive with pledges of various amounts that you can check out on this website to sweeten the pot as well.
Please join us for the fun!

Risks and challenges
We do not anticipate any major risks or challenges with this project because we have all been involved in similar projects funded by the same crowd-funding model before. Our first album was a successfully completed project that utilized the Kickstarter platform, and we had a lot of fun making that album through this model. We know where we are going to go for recording, mixing, mastering, and CD duplication, so no worries there.
The band itself works remarkably well together since we have all been friends for a long time (some of us for about 30 years!). We are also fortunate to share a collective sense of trust, professional courtesy, and artistic sensibilities that often bring out the best in each other, both personally and musically.
Our "Behind the Music" documentary might lack the debauchery and emotional fireworks of other famous bands, but our collective personalities and responsible natures also make it much more likely that we will complete our project with a minimum of unexpected challenges or delays. So there's that!
Thank you for your support from all of Groove Witness!
