About this project
Wonderland of Emotions is an illustrated, educational, unique alphabet book, that offers a journey into the wonderland of emotions for children, parents and teachers. It is more than a book, because it is created like a tool for helping children to learn the alphabet letters, and at the same time, learn about their emotional life.
It's a tool that can be very useful in the process of managing conflicts between children by exploring their emotional life, and by naming, recognizing, learning and talking even about powerful emotions like fear, anger or sadness. This also serves as an opportunity for parents to create a deep connection with themselves and their children at the same time. This book also opens the opportunity for your kids to develop their empathy and use it to understand conflicts while developing their ability to manage them in a peaceful and sustainable way. It can also be used as a personal development and therapeutic tool, in this process of working with children.
We often see conflicts between children and find these very hard to mediate. We often see our children suffering, being overwhelmed by their feelings, and reacting impulsively.
We strongly believe that a child, who is aware of his or her emotional life, starts to learn another way of dealing with crisis situations. Children start to understand themselves and others by developing their empathy, improving their relationships and social life. Having a child aware of his or her emotions makes it easier for a parent or teacher to deal with conflicts, difficult situations or provocative moods. Conflicts and crises can be prevented or managed through this process of naming emotions, measuring their intensity and asking - what message did they bring?
Wonderland of Emotions is a starting point for searching, discovering, identifying and understanding expression, through our illustrated stories. We suggest that you ask your children or classroom about how they see every character’s mood, and how they perceive every story. They don’t have to guess the “correct” answer, because there is no such a thing. You as a parent or teacher are interested to see how every child perceives emotions through their own eyes and hearts.
We encourage you to ask them further if they experienced in any way the feeling that they see in the stories of this alphabet. Also, if it’s difficult for them to name emotions, then it’s a good opportunity to teach them about these main emotions and feelings presented in the book, to explore them with examples from their own life. The idea is to better understand and teach them to recognize the emotions in themselves in similar situations. Starting with these main feelings they can then develop their emotional language.
The more a child can name what he or she feels and recognize it when it appears, the faster and easier he or she can handle and overcome a difficult mood or situation as it arises.
This book will be 36 pages long, 200 gram each page, 17 X 17 cm, square, matte, hard cover.
Wonderland of Emotions is an educational tool created for children of all ages and also for parents and teachers.
Our emotional ABC for Kids has 15 characters embodying 26 various emotions and feelings that a child can experience. We thought of little, funny, full of expression characters which every kid could interact with throughout the book. We also have each character presenting two emotions in opposition, for example anger and love; sadness and happiness, tiredness and relaxation and so on, until the end of our alphabet.
We created it in this way because we didn’t want for children to perceive one character as bad and another one as good. We wanted for them to understand that the same character can, for example, sometimes feel happy and sometimes feel sad.
As an illustrator I set myself two missions: one is to create characters that can relate with children, in order for them to understand feelings and emotions. And the second mission was to create beautiful pages of illustration. I believe that children’s book illustrations are the first contact between children and art; therefore I would like to contribute in a small way, towards children’s artistic and emotional education. And so I began my work.
I chose to focus more on the eyes of the characters, drawing them bigger. As the quote says, “The eyes are mirror of the soul.” Also, I wanted the characters to look as if they were drawn from different other stories, to have personality, to be attractive, to arouse curiosity; “What’s up with this character? What’s his/her story? Why does he/she feel sad or happy or frightened?” Each character is set on different background. Every background is independent and underlines the inner feeling that the character expresses.
Every background offers the reader a possibility to invent their own story. As an illustrator I believe that it is important to suggest, and not necessarily to show. A children’s book has to arouse the creativity and imagination of a child. He/she has to search and find for himself the meaning, ; that’s why we should never underestimate a child.
Through this alphabet, we invite you to start a dialog with your child and to try understand the different shades of emotions and the many ways they can be expressed. The characters in our book also show some subtle emotions that reveal that there isn’t a specific “mask” that we should all wear to show our feelings and emotions “correctly”, because there isn’t one specific way of showing them. We are all unique and we all act and express differently according to the experiences and communities we have been exposed to.
Therefore we encourage your insights and recommend that you try to ask and listen to your children’s insights as well as they begin to speak about their feelings. It is important for them to understand why and when we feel the way we feel. There isn’t a right or wrong way of expression; it is about exploring our identity and all the unique ways of perceiving our feelings. And that is why you, as an adult, have a wonderful and meaningful role in working with and showing your children this alphabet.
So, consider the illustrated pages of Wonderland of Emotions as a starting point for searching, discovering, identifying and understanding the wide variety of emotional expression.
We really need your support for bringing this project to life. We want all children around the world to have this emotional alphabet, to play with it, to explore and to discover the range of human emotions. You can help us to make our dream come true and change the world by raising children who are aware of their and others’ feelings and needs, who are full of compassion and in control of their own life.
Working at this project wasn't easy at all. We've started in January 2015 by sharing ideas, planning, finding people and starting to build the whole project in every detailed aspect. We needed human resources, material resources and marketing strategies. We also have costs related to making the book, awards and shipping.

After we'll finish our emotional alphabet we want to continue working at the second alphabet, its twin book, in which children explore their needs, and make a connection between the emotions that they are finding in Wonderland of Emotions and the needs that are expressed by the beautiful characters and stories in our next alphabet book for kids, Exploring Human Needs – ABC for kids. In this process, children and adults can work together to find solutions, explore together the many possibilities of getting those needs met.
Hello! I'm Mihaela and I'm very pleased to meet you.
I'm a certified freelance trainer. I facilitate workshops in emotional education for kids as well as nonviolent-communication for adults. I create programs for kids to help them in developing and sustaining their social-emotional skills for life. I'm also working on creating workshops and programs for teenagers, sharing nonviolent-communication method and supporting them in finding new collaborative ways to manage conflict.
Over 10 years I've played with and spent my time with children of all ages. I've worked in different particular kindergartens based on Waldorf, Montessori and Democratic education systems.
For the last 5 years I've spend my time learning, practicing and sharing the non-violent communication language. I like to ride my bike, to read fantasy books and play with kids. I also like to write and dance. And I'm grateful for every emotion that visits my heart, and every moment. I'm grateful for being alive.
Hello! I'm very pleased to meet you all! My name is Iulia and I am an illustrator! I graduated with my Master Degree in Fine Arts University. Recently, I started to be a teacher in an Art in High School. It is a wonderful and difficult job. As an Art Teacher I have to teach students how to express themselves through art and also to contribute to their self awareness.
I have come to understand the importance of both education and non-formal education, in all forms. As we know, education is a never-ending process, that starts from early ages and it develops continuously.
I believe that it is important to teach and to show toddlers and young children the nature of feelings and emotions, and why we feel them, so that they can understand more about themselves, and what their needs are. It can have a great impact on their self expression. Thus I was happy to become part of this project.

Risks and challenges
" Wonderland of Emotions " has been a project we have been working on since the beginning of 2015, because we wanted to do it in a peaceful and calm way, allowing us to give the best we could and to be able to say in the end that we are very happy and pleased about it.
So we started to work carefully and to be aware of every detail of this project. We wanted every owner and reader of this book to feel pleasure and to spend a quality time exploring through each pair of eyes and souls their unique emotional life.
We took a project management approach regarding time allocated for every aspect including keeping you informed about all the aspects of this project, including shipping, costs and time delivery, so that everybody is pleased.
We also took into consideration unexpected factors that can occur during the project, so we have done the main part of book creation and design of the rewards before starting this campaign. We really know that this project has to come to life so with you so we can make a great team dedicated to fulfilling this purpose.
LET’S TALK ABOUT SHIPPING!
The art should be complete at the end of November and, from there, it will only take an additional 2 months to have printed books. The book printing should take one month. This means the book should be ready to ship by March 2016, but we have allotted time for delays. Right now we estimate that all tiers will be shipped in May. If there are delays past this point, we will be sure to inform all backers!
We’ll definitely be posting updates when we send out backer surveys, and we will do our best to make sure no one misses a survey! We will be waiting to send out the survey as close to our shipping time as possible to avoid any out-of-date addresses receiving book shipments.
When the surveys are sent out, you will have 3 months from that date to respond with your address and other pertinent information in order to receive your reward. Beyond that 3 month window, it is hard for us to be certain that we will still have all of our Kickstarter backer merchandise!
We definitely don’t want to short anyone out of their reward, 3 months should be enough time for most of you to collect your backer survey and respond.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
