Stock Tips originated as a tag on Tumblr. Rachel started blogging about soup, and offering advice to others on how to make their soup—and stock—better.
Thus: STOCK TIPS.
Meanwhile, Ami was traveling through South America (learning to make a soup called Caldo Gaellgo), and communicating with everyone back home only through her zine, Charm Offensive.
We know there are a ton of other people out there who like soup and read zines! So we want to combine our love of soup-making and zine-writing and share it with a wider audience than just our Tumblr followers or Charm Offensive readers. And that's where you come in.
Backers are essentially pre-ordering their zine, so that we have enough money to cover the photocopying and shipping. We'll throw in the folding, stapling, and envelope stuffing with a little help from our friends.
We've signed up some great writers, artists, and bloggers to contribute to #Stock Tips, including Kate Christensen, Jami Attenberg, Roxane Gay, Emily Gould, Kevin Clark, Amy Plitt, Alex Chee, Nozlee Samadzadeh, Jenn Northington, Jaime Green, PJ Vogt, Beth Griffenhagen, Sara Eileen Hames, and Kevin Nguyen. If you have something to submit, email firstname.lastname@example.org with your idea.
Risks and challenges
Unlike a project that involves machines or coding, Stock Tips will be a relatively lo-fi operation. We need to lay out the pages (with double-sided tape) and cross stitch the soup designs (probably while listening to NPR).
So as long as the stores keep selling tape and NPR keeps streaming on demand, our challenges will be kept to a minimum.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
