Ladies, Gentlemen, and SoB’s alike: the third album is coming! Here's your chance to help Sons of Bill finish it...
Let us start off by saying that you all have been the best friends and fans any band could ask for. "Little Debbie" - our Ford E-250 High-top Chariot of Rock - hit 250,000 miles this month and she ain't slowing down. For all the love, support and encouragement you've given us over the last few years, we all owe you a sincere thank you.
We know it's been a while since we’ve put out a new full-length record. Let us assure you that we’ve been hard at work at it and we're all excited about this next batch of songs. We’ve already started tracking our next record at Sound of Music Studios in Richmond VA with David Lowery (of Cracker fame) at the helm as producer. SoB has really come into a new place this year musically and personally, and we think we’re making the record to show it. We can’t wait for you to hear it, and to play these songs for you in rock clubs and music halls across the country.
It’s a changing music industry. In many ways this is a good thing. The record labels have less creative control over artists, the gate-keepers of FM radio no longer dictate what you get to hear as a music lover, and it's by and large less expensive to hear new music. Long live rock and roll.
But, as Spiderman’s uncle sagely counseled, “With great power comes great responsibility.” More and more costs fall upon bands to produce and release new music. When there is no record label to pay for recording, mixing, and promoting of a record, it falls on us to raise the money through touring, which is a big part of why we’ve been on the road constantly the last two years.
Through Kickstarter we are able to provide a variety of goods and services to our loyal fans – from advanced copies of the new record all the way up to a private CD release party in your own back yard – as a way for us to generate enough money to record, mix, and release this new album in 2011.
As an extra thank you from us, anyone who gives any amount of money will receive an immediate free download of our brand new live album "A Rock and Roll Christmas Spectacular: Live at the Jefferson Theater." This was an epic night full of friends, fun and heavy metal covers. This album isn't available anywhere else, but we want you to have it as an extra thank you for your support. Once you become a backer, simply click on the "updates" tab at the top of this page and claim your download.
The amazing outpouring of support that we've already gotten has utterly humbled us and has made it all but inevitable that we'll be able to make this our best album yet. But there are always costs around every corner. Major record labels spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on publicists, radio promoters, and tour support for each album they release. A little extra capital would go a long way towards helping Sons of Bill run with the big dogs in this department.
If you’ve read this far, then chances are you’ve met us after one of our shows, and know what kind of guys we are and why we’ve dedicated our lives to this band. None of us have ever been into rock and roll fanfare, excess, and fancy pants. We love to make music and we love having the chance to play for you every night. James’ chronic sweating problem (responsible for destroying several guitars) should stand as a testament to just how hard we’re willing to work every night for what we love.
We ask for your help and support to make this a reality for us in 2011, and we sincerely thank you for helping us make the best album we can.
Thanks in advance,
James, Sam, Abe, Seth, Todd.
