Who We Are....
The Jubilo Music & Arts Festival is an innovative, new, grassroots project created by veteran festival producer and director, Robyn Burkett Baker, together with a team of 10 college students, recent grads and other mega-talented young folks from the Appalachian region of Kentucky. This marginally insane pioneering team of crazies has signed on as a brave, volunteer workforce to make this great new event happen out of their love for music and their belief in Jubilo’s long term mission - to do some meaningful work in their Appalachia. Producing a festival of this size is going to be hard work, and will cost a lot of money to get started. But it’s going to be a blast – for us and especially for YOU !!
What We're Doing
We’re going to stage a great festival in Richmond, Kentucky, September 13-16, 2012! Our goal is to attract an audience of 10,000 to 25,000 crazy music fans for a great weekend of camping, visual arts, and MUSIC of all kinds. We hope to build an eclectic line-up to include approximately 60 - 75 bands, including some great nationally known headlining artists and a host of incredibly talented musicians from this region.
Over the past year or so, we’ve reached out on Facebook through two pages (Jubilo Music & Arts Festival and Jubilo Richmond) to determine the amount of interest in something like Jubilo in this area. To date, a combination of 1,382 friends and 1,712 likers have encouraged us to make the music happen! You've even given us your wish list for who you want to see at Jubilo. And you've obviously got excellent taste! You've asked for some great headliners like: Old Crow Medicine Show, The Civil Wars, Big Leg Emma, The Avett Brothers, The Barr Brothers, Cage the Elephant, Yonder Mountain String Band, Umphrey's McGee, and a bzillion others. We've made offers for some of these bands and are talking with others every day. But NONE of them will be confirmed until we reach our goal. The really exciting thing is that the more you help us EXCEED our goal, the more nationally known headliners we'll be able to book! But here's the deal....... we really do need to HURRY! These bands are booking their tours as you're reading about this project. We need to get them before it's too late!!! (Be sure to watch for our UPDATES along the way! We'll announce our band bookings to our Kickstarters FIRST!)
Given our venue’s close proximity to Richmond, Lexington, Louisville, Cincinnati, and Knoxville, Jubilo will be a convenient destination for thousands of Happy Dancing People. With the support of live music loving students from University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, Northern Kentucky University, Berea College, Morehead State University, University of Louisville, Indiana University, and the many other great colleges and universities in the immediate area, we feel certain that Jubilo is going to be a fantastic success! Jubilo could very well be the last butt-kicking outdoor camping dancing get wild about some killer bands checking out all the creative arts and handcrafted goods all weekend long in September way to end the summer like you should in a state park in Kentucky music festival experience type of thing EVER! After all, it's the end of the world, right? And if the Mayans goofed up their calendar, so what! We'll just do it all again next year!
Jubilo’s objective is ambitious. But, we have the necessary experience, the know-how, and the relationships within the music festival industry to make Jubilo happen. We just have this "little" problem. There's the matter of funding to make the required deposits on some of those great headliners, lights and sound, and to secure our venue. But, in this economy, funding for creative arts projects is nearly impossible to come by – especially for a project of this size.
Kickstarter is incredible! What better way could there possibly be to bring a project like Jubilo to life? We're not going to let today's economy keep this project from happening. Instead, we're asking YOU to be a part of a great collaborative effort. That Woodstock thingy was a pretty big deal. But just think.... what if Kickstarter had been around in 1969! Here’s How it Works
Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing, crowd-source funding platform. You choose your rewards from the list on the right, pledge your payment, and then help spread the word about the Jubilo Music & Arts Festival! If our goal is NOT met, you’re charged NOTHING. If (when) we meet our goal, your account will be charged at the end of our campaign (April 30) and your rewards will be sent to you by the delivery date listed. AND, if you support Jubilo so much that we EXCEED our goal, then we’re going to book more and more headlining bands and add more crazy bells and whistles to your overall Jubilo experience.
What Have You Got to Lose?
In return for your pledges, Jubilo is offering some crazy cool rewards: stickers, event posters, event shirts, Kickstarter campaign shirts, hand-colored festival artwork, and other cool swag to be added along the way. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, we’re offering Jubilo Backers the exclusive reward of a limited number of FESTIVAL TICKETS at less than half price ONLY through the end of our Kickstarter campaign. It will only take 500 backers at the $50 ticket reward tier to meet our funding goal! If you help us EXCEED our goal, the bigger and better we’ll make Jubilo’s line-up! Every dollar raised on Kickstarter will go straight into making your Jubilo experience bigger and better. So.....Best case scenario, Jubilo will be a HUGE success and we'll stage a crazy festival with great national headliners. At the very least, Jubilo will be an incredibly awesome party and you'll get to camp for three days with some fantastic regional bands for just $50 - less than it would cost you to just camp at one of Kentucky's best state parks!
Seriously........what have you got to lose? Jubilo could, quite possibily, be Kentucky's last great outdoor music event before the end of the world!
Area A (green) - Festival Field (open seating)
Area B (yellow) - VIP campground with a combination of indoor restrooms and porta potties, shower houses, AND shared water and electricity for campsites. This area has a great little park store, a playground, picnic tables, grills and more.
Area C (pink) - General admission campground under the trees. Nice shaded area with some fire rings and grills.
Area D (blue) and Area F (aqua) - primitive camping with 2 picnic shelters for all night jam sessions, convenient porta potty access and some paved parking.
Area G (purple) Day use parking OR overflow camping (depending on the size of the crowd)
Area H (lighter purple) - Day use parking
