"Most people never ask,
and that's what separates people who just do things,
from the people that just dream about them."
A performance center for middle school kids that have a passion for art, photography, videography, audio and video editing, and performing live music and poetry that all can be live-streamed to an internet audience...that is what we want to create with our Kickstarter project, that is why we are asking for your help..
Last year my kids and I took an abandoned room in Moran Middle School in Wallingford, CT and made it into a recording and photography studio. It was a quiet place for kids to record audio, and do green screen photography, shoot video, and edit it. We called it 3 Floors Up (our promotional video is above). This year I have the opportunity to move my classroom, and right next to my new room is a larger unused space--we are going down one floor and it will be called "2 Floors Up." Over the last several years we have secured donations for everything from mics to green screens, computers to lava lamps, tripods to lighting. We also just won Acer's Classroom Makeover Contest and each kid will have access to a tablet in the room.
2 Floors Up will be a home to middle school kids whose passion does not normally find a home in public school classrooms. We are doing this Kickstarter campaign to get the last pieces needed to turn the room into a small venue where we can have monthly performances that can nurture young talents. Our biggest missing piece is a sound system. The sound system would allow us to put on professional sounding performances, but will also large enough for us to grow into larger spaces. The cameras, recorder and video editing software would allow groups and individuals to do all the 21st Century media needed for young performers to grow. A young performer today cannot survive without special attention to their digital footprint and social media presence. They would have everything needed to create a youtube channel, high quality videos with sound to match, and the computers already donated in the room will be used to stoke their social media accounts and websites. We would also finally have everything we need to livestream all our performances to audiences beyond our walls.
Our big goal is to simply create a home performance venue for a live and internet audience that sustains itself with kid friendly tickets prices which will allow us to improve our equipment and expand what we can offer. It will be all run by the kids--from photographing performances, to website creation, social media accounts, sound, video, editing, mixing...a place where kids can get experience and achieve things they did not know they were capable of doing because they simply would never, ever have had the opportunity without your donation.
My kids have the passion for creating and performing, they just don't have the place. 2 Floors Up will be that place. A place where they will feel respected as artists, a place where they can plan, practice, and play. A place in school that they can call their home. A place that will allow them to share their passions with the community and the world.

"Where tomorrow's legends play today."
Any funds beyond the $1,315 will be used to buy computers that are capable of doing intensive video editing.
Risks and challenges
Everything I do is kid powered! My kids do the set-up, planning, scheduling, building, and performing. They make mistakes, and sometimes just can't get a ride to things! I am hoping that the new room will be set-up and we can start performances by December or January, but a delay is always possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
