Smoke rises on the horizon. A fire rages somewhere in the heart of the forest. From the height of a fire tower, you command the efforts to defend your tower and take down your opponents. With each turn, the inferno grows. Harness the power of the wind to push the blaze towards the other towers, clear tracts of land to fortify your tower, hinder the plans of your opponents with torrents of water, and unleash an arsenal of fire cards upon your foes. Each card has a unique pattern with its own tactical advantage. You must effectively direct the resources in your hand and use sound spatial planning to deploy them.
Fire Tower incorporates an intuitive play structure that takes minutes to learn and seconds to set up. Although the core mechanics are easy to grasp, an ever-shifting environment forces players to switch up their tactics and experiment with varied strategies, making Fire Tower a difficult game to master and each play-through a fresh experience.
EASY TO LEARN
We made sure Fire Tower's rules were simple and easy to learn, so that you can start playing within minutes of opening the box. Below is a brief overview of how to play the game. For a more detailed explanation watch our 5 1/2 minute How To Play video above (stop motion animation!) or follow the link to our rules.
Your turn has two steps:
1. The wind spreads the blaze. Choose one empty space orthagonally adjacent (not touching diagonally) to another fire gem or the eternal flame (the fire marked at the center of the board) and place a gem on it.
2. Take action from your tower. Either play one of the five action cards in your hand or discard as many cards as you want and redraw up to your hand size. Find out more about the different types of cards below.
HARNESS THE POWER OF THE WIND
You may play Wind Cards to do one of three actions: change the direction of the wind to the direction shown on the card, roll the wind die in hopes of a better wind direction, or place one fire gem in the direction indicated on the card.
SPREAD THE BLAZE
We told you this game is competitive! Play Fire Cards to spread the blaze towards your opponents. Place the fire gems on the board in the pattern indicated at the bottom of each card. The fire can be placed anywhere, as long as at least one gem is touching the eternal flame or previously existing fire gems on the board.
EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES
Feel the heat? Use Water Cards to remove some of the fire gems from the board in the pattern shown at the bottom of the card.
Need more permanent defenses? Firebreak Cards allow you to build firebreaks (purple tokens), areas devoid of vegetation that the fire cannot go on or pass through. They can only be removed using the De/Reforestation card. Quick note: Firebreaks cannot be built orthogonally adjacent to any previously existing firebreaks on the board.
BEWARE THE FIRESTORM
Burn, baby, burn! The Firestorm Card comes up once per deck cycle. It must be played as soon as it is drawn, regardless of turn order. Once it is played, roll the wind die and place a fire gem orthogonally adjacent to every fire gem on the board in the direction the die indicates. At this point, every player has a chance to discard and redraw as many cards as they want from the deck.
PROTECT YOUR TOWER
Your fire tower is made up of the nine colored spaces in your corner of the board. You may not use water cards or build firebreaks in this area. Once the fire has breached your tower, your only recourse is your Bucket Card (every player gets one bucket for the game). You can toss it out the window in an attempt to save yourself from the flames. But if the fire comes back, watch out! This time you don't have a bucket to save you.
TAKE DOWN YOUR OPPONENTS
Once the fire reaches the back corner of your tower (outlined in orange), you are eliminated from the game. Hand your cards to the player who finished you off. Everyone now plays with an additional card, and a firestorm immediately takes place. But don't worry! The way this fire is raging, it'll just be a matter of minutes—maybe even seconds—before the other towers burn down and you can start your next game.
Last tower standing wins the game!
In the team variant, players sit diagonally across from their partners. The first team to burn both of their opponents' towers wins. All players remain in the game until the end, regardless of whether or not their tower burns down. This is an alternative to player elimination in the Free For All version.

This isn't just a one-off project for us, this is the beginning of a dream we've both had for many years. Both of us grew up playing board games and designing games for fun. We have spent the past three years working tirelessly on Fire Tower, not only because we want to give you a high quality, beautiful, and fun game, but because we want to lay the groundwork for a real business. We know exactly how we will manufacture our game and every detail about fulfillment and shipping. We've gone to 15 conventions and countless game nights, playing our game over and over to ensure that it is exactly the product you want. We've listened to your advice, and we've been fine tuning our product since day one.

What makes it unique?
Okay, we are the ONLY competitive forest fire game (that we know of). But that's not all. Fire Tower has such unique mechanics that in the hundreds and hundreds of games we've played, no one ever says to us, "Your game is just like ______." Considering all the games on the market right now, we are very happy about that.
Here's a few other points we think are pretty neat:
- The artwork. If you're familiar with Kevin Ruelle's fine art, you already know that we lucked out having him as our artist. If you don't know, check out some of his work here.
- Easy to learn. Fire Tower takes about 5 minutes to learn. Don't believe us? Watch our How to Play video above and get back to us.
- Lots of pictures. Each card includes a grid that visually explains the ways it can be used, saving new players from having to constantly refer to the rule book.
- Easy to set up. "Let's play Fire Tower," you say. One minute later, you're playing. No special placement of tokens, separating cards into several piles, nothing.
- The fire gems. They are just really fun to hold. And they look like candy. And you get 135 of them in every single game. We know you are thinking of buying more copies because you want to fill a bathtub with those gems. Don't let us stop you.
- The variations. Gwen likes this game best with two players. Sam likes it best with four. Looking for heavier strategy? Try the team variant or the two player version. Want to trick your friends into thinking you're the nice guy while you plot to burn down their towers? Play the three or four player "Free for All" version. Add chaos with the Firestorm. The games feel different, even though the mechanics are simple to learn.
- Lastly, this game is just plain fun. We've personally played Fire Tower more than 1000 times, and we still enjoy it. That's some serious replayability.

This is our first game and we fully understand the amount of work and number of obstacles in front of a first time project creator. Although we can't ensure that problems won't arise, we guarantee that we've done extensive work with our chosen manufacturer and fulfillment center to ensure that the process will be as smooth as possible.
