We have 2 forest engineers in our team. Also, a whole team of workers works for them in the area. Following our low carbon agenda, we hire local! Check out our team section to know more about our engineers.Last updated:
When deciding the strategy to follow, we have to take into consideration a few factors:
- The most important good, above the private interest of any member, are the forests and to assure its well being and longevity. Remember that Reforestum aims to act collectively to solve a global problem. Each member matters as much as the community and the common good does.
- We must to be able to extend the share of any member without any kind of "collision" and with maximum flexibility.
- In order to avoid that any member could claim control over a sector, or even the whole forest, there will be limitations on the percentage that a member might own.
After establishing this conditions, there is only one strategy that is able to meet the given requirements:
The total surface of each forest is divided in sectors of around (*) 1.000 square meters.
When you purchase a forest, a percentage of that sector is assigned to you.
When you extend your forest, that percentage will be enlarged.
You can own a maximum of 80% of a sector. Then you might own shares in different sectors.
NOTE: Depending on the forest, each sector will have more or less trees.. In Génesis, by average, there will be 100 trees in a sector.
This strategy allows us the accomplish several things:
- Independently of your purchasing power, you can become an environmental hero because you will be the co-owner of (at least) one sector.
- Therefore, no matter how many shares you hold, you can walk around the forest. And more specifically within your sector, with a feeling of fulfillment and joy knowing you helped plant all those trees and you co-own them.
Reforestum aims that anyone, no matter its budget, no matter if you came from a rich country or not, you can become an environmental hero. So if a kid of 15 years old in Congo wants to owe 0,2 square meters, he/she can do it. And he/she can go and visit (now or in 30 years) that sector of the forest; And very proudly say: "I owe this forest, a part of this forest is mine and I am making a difference. I am helping the planet". As you see, Reforestum is about the power of little actions, even though, some people will have the will and the potential to owe bigger pieces of forest. All of us matter.
* It might vary depending on specific characteristics of the land, mainly slope and the shape of its contour.Last updated:
We aim to offer you a service in which you can delegate in experts. Each climate, soil and region has specific and unique characteristics. A forest must behave as a whole system. So we can say that for this specific moment and forest, the members will not be able to choose species. Please have a look to the corresponding section in our KS page where we provide the whole list of species we are going to plant.
In the future, when we have more available locations, we will offer you a wider spectrum of options, then you will be able to choose several forest in different countries with a wide catalog of species, and you will be able to diversify your forests.
Further than that we will implement a service in which we can assist you to design a forest, including many parameters, such as species. However such service needs to be developed and it will imply that the final cost of purchasing a forest will be noticeably more expensive. As a tree, we need to grow strong before facing that phase.Last updated:
Yes, There will be a public list.
This is a way to be transparent and guarantee the members unique ownership of the forests.
Of course, each member will decided its level of privacy.
Meanwhile some members might choose to show their names and profile pictures, others might choose to show an avatar and nickname; And others may want to be completely anonymous, in which case only a code will be shown.Last updated:
Our forest engineers have established a schedule to take car of the forest along the time.
The first 25 years of maintenance and taxes over the land, is included in the price per sqm that your are pledging in the campaign.
As you might know, the members acquire an agreement with Reforestum for the ownership of the forest that have no limitation in time.
As you might also know, our members pay only once for their forest, so, what happens after 25 years?
We are designing the forests to be self sustainable, as any natural forest is. However, our governments, as opposed to nature, decided to charge us taxes.
So, how is the maintenance (Including taxes) is going to be afforded after that period of time?
Well, the forest will produce a yield. We are going to plant many nut trees, getting agreements with local farmers to harvest honey, and getting agreements with local hall towns.
However, no one on earth can say with 100% of certainty how the markets or the taxes will be 25 in advance. Therefore, we have a plan B. In the remote case non of the former possibilities happen to be enough, we will cut down as many trees are needed. We plan that cutting 1 to 3 trees in one hectare, and selling the timber, will be more than enough to keep all running for, at least, 10 years more.
Last question, what happens if the forest produces more yield than the cost is?
We will share the profit with the members in a form of credits that they will be able to use to extend their forests.Last updated:
