The parklet will be located directly in front of 1344 University Avenue, a massive former industrial warehouse that now features a dozen different businesses within its space. (Massage Therapy, Architects, Flooring Companies, Parkour, and more...)
1344 represented an ideal location to create the first parklet in the City of Rochester as it featured a defunct Fire Lane owned by the City. The space sat vacant up until this past year when Joe Bean Coffee Roasters began to furnish the space outside.
The parklet is a 100 percent public entity that remains open at all times, it is free and for anyone to use and in addition to Joe Bean will benefit the many businesses in the neighborhood by creating a comfortable public dwelling place.
The City of Rochester, Staach, and Slow Road all recognize the potential of this location as being a highly visible pilot parklet that will benefit the neighborhood through the creation of public space - something that is rare in this particular stretch of University Avenue.
Upon the successful completion of this parklet the City will launch a municipal parklet program to to bring parklets across the City.
