Pinky Swear Productions presents Carol’s Christmas, a sometimes dark, always funny holiday play for adults and humbugs everywhere.
Folks, we are giddy as sugarplums. In the past three years, Pinky Swear has produced two cabarets and three critically acclaimed Capital Fringe shows, including the 2011 Capital Fringe Best Musical Cabaret XXX: Les Femmes Fatales. We’ve grown a lot—and our dreams have, too.
Now, we’re headed for the big time. On November 18, Pinky Swear opens the world premiere of Carol’s Christmas by Marni Penning, our first full-length show! With an inspiring director, a talented cast, and a crack team of designers and stage managers ready to make magic happen, we’re well on our way to getting our Christmas wish. We’re as giddy as kids on Christmas Eve!
But we need your help. We are asking you, our friends and fans, to help bring Carol's Christmas to life.
Please help us reach our goal of $5,000 by the end of Carol’s run. Your holiday gift will help defray the cost of this, our most ambitious project to date, and ensure that Pinky Swear has a future well into the New Year.
What your money will go to:
- Space rental for rehearsals and performances
- Cast and crew stipends
- Set construction and dressing
Twelve Days of Carol! Sorry, we couldn’t resist. But seriously, have you looked at the rewards?
You will also have our ever-lasting love and gratitude. So many of you have supported us as we’ve started out, and we thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our Pinky hearts. Please help us reach this next milestone. We won’t disappoint you—we promise!
Carol's been through the worst breakup of her life and refuses to leave the house. Her best friend can't get her to budge, so her sister borrows from Dickens. Can the ghosts of Ex-Boyfriend Past, Ex-Husband Present, and Partner-Yet-to-Be convince her to open the door and get on with her life?
In true Pinky fashion, Carol's Christmas is a holiday play for grown-ups, so you won't find any dancing fairies or flying reindeer. Like the precocious love child of Charles Dickens and Bridget Jones, it’s a sometimes dark, always funny, deeply relatable story about relationships and how they affect our lives — for better or for worse.
Written by DC-based actor/playwright Marni Penning, Carol's Christmas was the 2007 runner-up for the Robert J. Pickering Award for Playwriting Excellence.
Directed by Toni Rae Brotons*, with Karen Lange*, Allyson Harkey*, Robin Covington, Christopher Herring, and Jack Powers. November 18 – December 23 at Theatre on the Run in Arlington, VA.

Pinky Swear produces plays with bold, strong, engaging female characters. We are interested in new stories and new storytellers. Our productions are a little funny, a little dark, and a lot entertaining. Ultimately, we like plays where people talk to each other and things happen.
We hire women (both artists and technicians) whenever possible. We believe in a world where all theatre artists can make a living and do our best to bring that world to fruition.
