Hello! I am raising funds to print a deluxe children's novel entitled "Bear Book." I wrote the text, and the illustrations were created by the very talented Kristina Lewis (you can see more of her work on http://www.mithmeoi.net/).
"Bear Book" is above all a fun, light-hearted rhyming story. It describes the adventures and key traits of bears from places like Alaska, the Gobi Desert, South America, and Africa. The beautifully produced illustrations are intended to convey the playful antics of grizzlies, sun bears, pandas, and black bears (to name a few).
Why This Project Matters
In our search for new and exciting stories to read to our son, we had a hard time finding books with inspiring illustrations. We did a little research, and realized that many big publishers are only willing to invest in books they know will be blockbusters. They no longer take risks on stories from new authors, or on books that spend a little more money to produce bright and playful illustrations.
My goal is to create and publish a quality picture book that children will enjoy reading again and again. I love and value the magic that happens when a parent reads to their child, and I want to contribute to it by bringing the "Bear Book" to families all over the world.
I decided to publish this book myself because I wanted it to see the light of day, and so that I could ensure the finest possible illustrations. The book will be large (8.5" x 11") in order to showcase these illustrations, and to make it easy for little hands to hold.
The funds raised will go towards printing a full color soft cover copy of the book, printed and bound by the 120-year-old Worzalla Press in Stevens Point, WI. This is the same award-winning press that created Where the Wild Things Are, The Polar Express, Curious George, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Their trademark quality includes more precise scanning, exquisite art reproduction, finer papers, and better binding. I want this book to be special in every way, and truly appreciate your support to make it happen. Check out all of the cool things you could get along with a copy of the book, and thank you for considering this project!
Our funding goal of $2,200 will cover printing costs for the book, but with your generosity, the sky is the limit. Check out the additional rewards that can be unlocked in the coming weeks, and thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
The illustrations and text for this book are already complete, now I've just got to get them formatted and sent off to a printer. From there it should just be a few weeks before I can start distributing the finished product!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
