HELLO good people of the Internet!
This is Sinbad Richardson, creator of Jennifer Harris, an animated short about a big pink radio host who is transitioning to TV, this should be a breeze for her! Or will it? I started this Kickstarter project to fund the finishing of "Jennifer Harris". The short will be widely distributed online and used as a pilot for an episodic series pitch.
WHAT IS THE STORY ABOUT?
Jennifer Harris is a radio personality plagued with anxiety. When she gets nervous she sweats like crazy and that makes her self-conscious and that makes her want to escape and that makes her even more nervous and that makes her sweat even more! GASP!
Doing the radio show has worked for Jennifer because her audience is invisible, it's just her and Eddy in the booth and she is perfectly comfortable! But when it's all gone, a TV network approaches Jennifer to do a show and that revives her demons. She has always dreamed of doing television but was held back by her fears: this is the conflict at hand!
In the end, Jennifer finds resolution in opening up about her anxiety to her closest friend and co-host Eddy.
MORAL = "I get by with a little help from my friends." - The Beatles
This type of anxiety is something that I dealt with in college and university. I would often dart out of classes, suddenly leave dinner tables, I would sweat profusely if a prof would call on me, prevent myself from signing up for things I wanted to do that required any sort of public address. It's serious stuff folks!
ALOT OF THE WORK IS DONE!
I have alot of the major steps done through the generosity of my friends who have donated their services as actors, musicians, writers and from my family (for being family and doing what families do!).
Write the script = DONE!
Storyboard = DONE!
Record voice-overs = DONE!
Design Characters = DONE!
Draw Backgrounds = DONE!
Core animation <====== THIS IS WHERE WE ARE NOW!
Here is a peek at backgrounds that are in the can:
Jennifer Harris is voiced by Nicole Roberge. Nicole and I used to host a morning talk show on university radio for a year. Nicole is now involved in electronic art and works at an artist-run electronics lab in Montreal.
Eddy is voiced by me. As Nicole and I used to have a radio show and an established natural flow of banter, it was the obvious casting.
Selly is voiced by Dave Wheaton, a seasoned actor who agreed to donate his talent for the project in exchange for chocolate, beer and HTML lessons.
Adam Eberwein is an animator who generously donated some background illustrations.
Voice-over recording and sound editing by Andrew Whiteman. Andrew is half of AroarA, check out their music and blog here.
I wrote the script and then sent it out to great minds who helped me focus the story. Thank you Valérie Boxer, Aaron Seligman, Jonathan Achtman, Anthony von Seck, Sacha Miller, Alexander Chow and Alexandre Rivest for your time and insight.
The animating, which is where the project is at right now, will be painfully and lovingly done by me using Toon Boom's Animate.

SOME BACKGROUND ON JENNIFER HARRIS
I created Jennifer Harris back in college, I wrote a weekly full page comic for the student paper for 2 years.
Jennifer Harris got her big break with Young Galaxy when she starred in two of their music videos (We Have Everything and Peripheral Visionaries from their 2011 album Shapeshifting). For the first one I took no payment and was given carte blanche, the second one received support from Factor, a Canadian grant program.
After the mountains of love these two videos got I decided it was time to take Jennifer Harris to the next level; her very own animated short!
Thank you for checking out my Kickstarter!
Psst! Here's a free reward just for stopping by and making it to the bottom of my spiel:
