About

"I wish I had come up with this game container idea! So perfect for the theme and so awesome as an uber portable game."                                                                                                                                            -David Miller, Designer and Publisher of 3 very successful Mint Tin Games

What is Stop the Germs!?

Stop the Germs! is a fast paced strategy game for two players that plays in just 10 to 15 minutes. Players take turns placing, flipping, and moving hex tiles until someone plays their last remaining germ tile, which ends the game. The player with the most points in the winner!

Stop the Germs! does not require a playing board and is limited only by the flat surface that it is played on.

What's in the bottle?

The game comes entirely packaged inside a prescription bottle! Inside it you'll find:

  • 30 1.5" hex tiles
  • 2 Tile Reference sheets
  • 1 Rules sheet
  • A whole lot of fun

The bottle is only 3.75" x 2", so it's incredibly portable and a perfect game to bring with you wherever you go!

How do you play?

Stop the Germs! is quick to teach and easy to learn. Each player begins the game with an identical set of ten germ tiles of their color in addition to three randomly drawn special effect tiles. There are eight germ tiles with a value between one and six and two germ tiles that copy the value of an adjacent germ of the same color in play. The special tiles affect the gameplay in various ways that either benefit you or work against your opponent.

To start the game, each player will then play one of their germ tiles adjacent to the start tile, with the single germ side up. After that, players alternate turns using three of the following actions:

  • Place a Germ tile
  • Flip a Germ tile
  • Move a Germ tile
  • Place/Play a Special tile

Players may choose to use the same action multiple times or use three different actions. When a player places their last germ tile, the game ends immediately. All unplayed tiles are discarded.

Players calculate their scores by adding up the number of germs on their tiles, after factoring in any special tile effects, if applicable. The player with the highest number of points is the winner!

International backers will pay $10 for the $19 pledge level, $14 for the $35 pledge level, and $24 for the $95 pledge level. We know shipping outside the United States is ridiculously expensive and we apologize for the cost. If the project becomes wildly successful, we may be able to utilize a cost friendly fulfillment service.

Why should I back now?

Stop the Germs! has been in development for over three years and has been tested hundreds of times by dozens of playtesters across the world. Many have created their own print and play copies but the game has also seen time at various conventions like UnPub and GrandCon. Here are a few reasons why you should feel good about backing now:

It's an award winner: It got its start as an entry into the 2013 Two Player Print and Play Design Contest on BoardGameGeek.com. At the end of the contest it took 1st place in the Best Small Game category.

You'll get a discount: You'll save a few dollars off of the MSRP which could go towards supporting another indie game that you might find here on Kickstarter.

Backers get their copies first: All of the backer copies will be delivered before any retail sale of the game begins.

You're helping out the little guy: We're a very small publisher so our games cannot become a reality without your help. We truly appreciate any support you can give us, monetarily or otherwise.

It's travel ready: The bottle is small enough to fit in nearly any bag, purse, or pocket. When playing, the game doesn't normally take up much surface area so you can play it on most small surfaces like an airplane tray table.

What about a Digital Version?

Stop the Germs! will be coming soon to Android and iOS thanks to Marian Gablovsky of Boardnaut Studios. The game is currently in its alpha version at the moment but it should be ready for everyone before the physical copies start getting shipped out to backers.

Risks and challenges

This is our second Kickstarter campaign, the first being Stac which successfully funded in June 2015, so we're familiar with how crowdfunding works. To mitigate the risks involved, we've done extensive research into how to properly run a campaign by reading everything we can. The information made available by a variety of experts has been invaluable. We'll use the lessons and suggestions that they shared to make this project a success.

Production and fulfillment are normally the biggest challenges in a campaign, but we've come up with a solution for this project that we think will make things easier for everyone. Not only will we be fulfilling each backer order, we'll also be putting together each copy by hand. All of the components will be ordered and then delivered directly to us so you won't have to wait for a boat to make its way across the ocean before it gets shipped. If there's an issue with a copy of the game, it'll be on us, meaning we can't point the finger at some foreign manufacturer. By having additional components on hand, we'll be able to correct any issues that occur.

The biggest challenge for this campaign will be actually getting funded. You'll notice that there are no stretch goals and that can hurt a campaign but we believe in giving you a complete game from day one. It also helps stabilize our costs and manage any delays in manufacturing that could occur. Once again, we've purposely made this a Simple campaign so we can continue to get more experience doing this, which is imperative because we plan on utilizing Kickstarter in the future.
