In the world of Joe Dever's Lone Wolf, the Magnamund, a new hero has arisen - Grey Star the Wizard!
You are Grey Star. From the core of a raging storm you appeared—a human child, ship-wrecked and orphaned, a gift of hope to the exiled Shianti sorcerers. Ever since that fateful night they have raised you as one of their own, teaching you the mysteries of their magic in preparation for an epic quest. The time has now come. You must find the legendary Moonstone and with its power crush the evil Wytch-king of Shadaki.
For only you can save the land of your birth from the cruel grip of his empire. But be warned! Ahead lies a terrifying journey into the unknown where survival or death confronts you with every turn of the page.
Grey Star the Wizard was originally published in 1985 as the first gamebook in a mini-series set in the world of Lone Wolf, created by Joe Dever and written by Ian Page.
The series plays for the most part at the tip of south-eastern Magnamund, in the land then known as the Shadakine Empire.
Lone Wolf cartograph Francesco Mattioli has been commissioned by Megara Entertainment to produce an all-new map of this Empire, available as a laminated full-colour map in the 50 euros pledge level.
A tyrant called Shasarak the Wytch-King has subjugated the people and with the help of seven Shadaki Wytches is ruling with an iron fist.
The Shianti, members of a mystical race, wish to help, but because of their exile on the Isle of Lorn they are forced to remain neutral in the conflict. However, one night the situation changes when a storm wrecks a vessel near the island, with a human infant being the only survivor.
In this child the Shianti see a chance to help the people of Magnamund without breaking their vow to Ishir, and they raise the boy in the arts of magic, giving him the name Grey Star: the star as the symbol of hope, and grey for the white-grey streak the boy has in his dark hair.
Once his training is complete, Grey Star is sent out to retrieve the Moonstone, an ancient Shianti artefact, from the Daziarn, for only with its power can Shasarak be defeated.
The first book of the series details Grey Stars travel to the Shadakine Empire and his desperate attempt to find a guide to lead him to the Shadow Gate.
Now, more than 30 years later, this first gamebook is back with this deluxe, enlarged, hardback Collector's edition by Megara Entertainment we hope to fund on Kickstarter.
As the original pocket-sized interior 1985 illustrations by Paul Bonner could not be retrieved from the original publisher or from Paul himself, we decided at Megara Entertainment (with Joe Dever's blessing) to contact the mythical (and original) Lone Wolf artist Gary Chalk to re-illustrate the whole gamebook at a higher resolution (the Collector's Edition being larger).
To our pleasure, he agreed to re-illustrate entirely the book with all-new interior drawings and a brand new cover for this Collector's Edition.
The result is truly amazing. You can see more examples below:
Also, Gary will be selling the original drawings for this new Collector's Edition exclusively during this campaign - check the pledge levels to the right.
And that's not all! We have added a special bonus gamebook adventure at the end of this Collector's Edition, written by Scriptarium and approved/revised by Joe Dever & Ian Page.
So, to sum up, our deluxe gamebook will have the following features:
- Large book size (same than for our other gamebooks previously published on our webstore or on Kickstarter) : 17 cm x 24.4 cm
- Hardcover 105 gsm interior paper
- Brand new black-and-white interior illustrations by Gary Chalk, including fillers
- Brand new cover by Gary Chalk
- A brand-new bonus adventure.
- All the up-to-date revisions of the gamebook text by Joe Dever, Ian Page and his team of experts, included in this ultimate edition.
Thank you for your support!

Risks and challenges
Megara Entertainment has a solid experience of publishing Collector's hardback gamebooks, with already many released gamebooks and more soon. Therefore the risks are low for this project if we reach our goal.
Furthermore, Megara has already paid and commissioned Gary Chalk to produce the interior illustrations and the cover.
We just need some additional time until April 2017 for Megara to double-check the text and gameplay of the gamebook with Joe Dever, Ian Page and a team of experts, and to complete the layout of this Collector's edition, then manufacture the books and ship them to the backers.
Please note that we have a small staff and we are managing several projects at a time, so we do our best but sometimes a delay can happen. In which case we always try to inform our backers the best we can about our progress anyway!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
