Champions of Megara Digital Collectible Card Game (Canceled)
A new fantasy digital collectible card game with 8 different classes and 240 animated cards for the core set.
Recently, Megara Entertainment has been developing a new digital CCG (Collectible Card Game) called Champions of Megara. We’ve spent a year in alpha development on our own funds, building the cards, their animations, the gameplay, and our own CCG game engine using Unreal Engine 4. We made an alpha demo for you to watch on this project's page. Now we are seeking the help of the public to finance the beta.
This Kickstarter is your opportunity to become a private beta tester and help fund our development process through the beta stage to completion. We also are offering during this campaign exclusive perks and stretch goals. Additionally, you will be able to buy core booster packs at a lower price than after the Champions of Megara release on Steam.
Should this Kickstarter be funded, beta development will begin immediately. After a round of internal playtesting, we’ll be inviting our backers to the closed beta in December 2017.
We plan then to release Champions of Megara on Steam for PC/Mac around September 2018, and afterwards, to start work on an iOS/Android mobile release.
With Champions of Megara, we’re bringing a new face to the field of digital Collectible Card Games. Champions of Megara boasts 8 different character classes, and immersive new mechanics rooted in classic fantasy archetypes. The current bustling and innovative market for digital CCGs has given us the opportunity to learn from our predecessors, and with that knowledge, refine our game mechanics until they distill the most critical elements of the genre while remaining simple to learn and fun to play.
During our alpha development process, over twenty people have come to our office in Cannes to contribute their skills and expertise, including coders, FX artists, game designers and sound designers. Now, as we complete our alpha phase of development, prototype in hand, we need YOU, our future players, to help make this game a reality. By pre-ordering cards and exclusive features here, you let the passion and excitement of our audience decide the fate of Champions of Megara.
Along with this Kickstarter, we will also publicly unveil ALL of our completed cards and their hand-made animations. A first batch of cards is displayed here at the bottom of our story page and we will reveal the rest during regular Kickstarter updates in the course of the campaign. We want to let you decide for yourself whether this is a game you want to play.
Champions of Megara is a digital collectible card game in the vein of Hearthstone. Two players build decks of 30 cards from their collections and face off.
The eight classes of Champions of Megara build their decks by drawing from an exclusive pool of cards, each with class-specific mechanics and playstyles. Classes also have their own hero power, a special ability they can use repeatedly during gameplay.
Once the game begins, Players spend mana to play allies and spells. Allies take part in combat on the front lines, while spells use their unique effects to help turn the tide. The first player to reduce their opponent’s life total to zero wins the game.
With funding from this Kickstarter's 100k stretch goal, we hope to additionally implement Quests, a system in which each class is offered three quests to complete over the course of every game, providing thematic gameplay rewards upon completion.
In addition to the beautiful artworks we are showcasing in our game, every card in Champions of Megara is animated from the start, for every player. We want to let you play with the most beautiful possible version of the cards in your collection from day one.
The animation process was a long one and each card required hours of 2D animation work by our talented artists. The classes also each have their own game board and animated card back design. Further, every card is allocated to one of 8 classes. Universally accessible cards need to be limited in strength and synergies, and we want to make sure all our offerings are exciting.
First of all, we are trying to gather here the remaining funding we need to implement the private beta and finish coding our game.
If we succeed, we will release on Steam where Champions of Megara will be 100% free to play but will feature an in-game store, in which players can buy booster packs and cosmetic items.
Players wishing to play only for free will also be able to purchase booster packs if they play regularly, as well as craft their cards.
All our cards will be craftable (Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary) except for 5 Mythical cards (the grade above Legendary) per sets (For instance, for our core set comprising 240 cards, you will be able to craft 235 cards).
The stretch goals, if unlocked, will apply to all backers, whatever their pledge level.
Exclusive alternate avatars: 1 additional animated avatar for each character class.
Exclusive alternate boards: 1 additional board skin for each character class.
Exclusive alternate card backs: 1 additional card back for each character class.
Here at Megara Entertainment, we’re huge fans of card games. Megara Entertainment has a storied ten-year history in fantasy publishing. We’ve produced books, apps and tabletop games. Now, we want to take our skills to the world of digital CCGs.
Since August 2016, Megara Entertainment has invested 100.000€ in private funding towards the alpha development of Champions of Megara. We have massive passion for this project, and are confident in its success in years to come.

Risks and challenges
Producing a video game poses many challenges, however, the most formidable are already behind us, and we are confident that Megara can finance its beta stage with the funds from this Kickstarter.
