About this project
"Mersey Boys" is a Beatles novel that introduces John, Paul, George,Ringo
and Al to the world outside of Liverpool, England. Al? Al! Welcome to a
ferryboat ride across the Mersey River and backwards in time by over
fifty years into an enchanting musical world that shall never be seen
again in history.
Join Professor Al Moran, a college art professor of John Lennon, on his magic carpet ride with the four young men who would soon morph into the
internationally known Beatles.
Gaze upon the beautiful Ginny Browne, the sexiest female character penned in these opening days of the Twenty-first century. Hear the music, dance to the beat and relive the heady days of a long ago golden age in England....."
We want to recreate a story around The Beatles concentrating on fictional characters, that may well have existed (we leave it for you to work that out!) and take our story from the eyes of the many characters that would have experienced The Beatles before they were famous - normal college kids starting a band in Liverpool.
It is a love story between an American professor who teaches at the art college where John Lennon was enrolled, and his affair with student Ginny, that develops along side the rise of the band to fame.
We want to make not only a film but we want this to run as an off Broadway play. Therefore we are filming and rehearsing the script in New York City.
Why are we not filming in Liverpool? Liverpool was awarded a cultural award which as a city saw investors plough millions into the redevelopment and transformation of the city changing it from this movie's time period. By filming at select New York locations that easily pass for 1960s Liverpool, England, we have the added advantage of getting to run Off broadway stage performances, which we felt were fitting to the original idea of the novel.
This way we can film on special scouted locations and interior film sets to create and produce not just a movie but go back to the roots of entertainment in an off Broadway play that can run in New York City.
It is Mike Strozier's first feature-length film, but he is an experienced stage director, producer, writer and actor, and while he's absolutely dedicated to make a film from as little budget as possible, we are hoping to bring on further members to our crew for hair, styling, location scouting to make our work as authentic as possible.
The cast are professionally, New York trained stage and film actors already working for little - we would love to pay them a small amount while bringing the rest of the crew in to work and help re creating this possibility to the best of filming ability.
We have contact with the author in place, his book already published via Amazon (see Mersey Boys at www.worldaudience.org), which we are aiming to recreate - we have the actors in place, all very professional successful and we have our director from Off Broadway, we have a talented experienced camera DOP, with professional equipment and editing software, as well as access to a full TV studio...but we are looking to put in the money to bringing in the rest of the film crew to make this as professional as possible, in our aim to produce stage and film alongside each other in New York City so that the creative team can shine.
Once we have sourced more production crew that are missing currently any left over funds would go toward editing and processing costs.
Thank you for following us! We hope we can make a great film with footage of a golden time!
Risks and challenges
We are aware we will be under scrutiny for the subject matter, but we want to do justice to the author's book, we will be challenged by so many people having knowledge on the details surrounding the Beatles. We want to bring a solid crew in to overcome these difficulties so we can let our actors and team shine. We have the advantage of a published book that the author has taken a lifetime to research and write, as well as a very talented screenplay writer in M. Stefan Strozier, who is adapting the book to a screenplay with the author.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
