About

EVIL SPACE ROBOTS HAVE INVADED EARTH and are enslaving all of humankind. Men, women, children, everyone is being enslaved. You could call it an apocalypse, a Robot Apocalypse. Oh no!!

The robots look like this.

THE GOOD NEWS, you and all the jokers you like to play games with will be filling the roles of evil robots. Each and every one of you, an alien invader hellbent on conquering earth. So there’s that. You’re awful. The worst.

But here's the problem: As much as you want to enslave all the humans on earth, so do all the other robots. Your friends - the people sitting at the table with you - are trying to enslave as many humans as they can and kicking the hell out of you while they do it.

THE GAME: So you're competing with all the other robots. Your goal is to build Robot Cogs (battle groups) and enslave more humans than your evil robot friends. You build cogs by playing action cards that give you access to more resources or attack your robot opponents, or some combination of the two.

Here are a few of the action cards. There are a number of others (farther down the page), but these should give you an idea of the spirit of the game.

So the goal is to build cogs, robot battle groups. The larger the cog, the more humans you can enslave. The trick is weighing the extra time and turns to build larger cogs with the risk that your competitors will attack you and set your progress back.

Is it better to build smaller cogs and capture humans faster, or take more time to build larger cogs to enslave more humans at one time? You'll have to answer this question as you battle for supremacy.

Here's a wicked cog:

 A few game specifics:

  • Number of players: 3 to 6 robots
  • Play time: 40 minutes or so
  • Card quality: 310gsm linen cards, printed in the United States

SPIRIT OF THE GAME: As you can see from the cards, this game is meant for adults who don't mind a swearful turn of phrase, some attacks in card games, and probably don't take things too seriously.

We like games that have a good mix of luck and strategy, aren't too difficult to understand and play over a couple of drinks, and make people laugh when they slap down a card. If you're of similar mind, you might enjoy this game.

At the heart of the game are cards like this:

REWARDS:

We've opted to keep the rewards simple, either one or two sets of the game. One set is $35, two is $60. So if you buy two, you save $10. That's math.

EACH GAME SET INCLUDES:

  • Set of Robot Apocalypse playing cards
  • One game box
  • One set of instructions

AND SHIPPING IN THE U.S. IS FREE

PROJECT TIMELINE:

  • Kickstarter campaign: December - January
  • Production: January - February
  • Shipping: March - April; we hope to be on the early end of this range

Thanks for checking out Robot Apocalypse! If you like our project, please share it with your friends via whatever means you see fit. Thanks!!

Risks and challenges

Being a card game, the production of Robot Apocalypse will be fairly simple. We are working with an excellent manufacturer and are confident in their ability to produce high quality cards in a reasonable time frame. We are sure that we'll be able to address any challenges that arise throughout the campaign and fulfillment periods.
