Between my sophomore and junior years in college, the depression and anxiety of being alone sank in deep, and the only thing left to do about it was to create a story about a character who felt what I felt. And thus... the little yellow bear Moon Bear was created. Now, a year out of college I want to go even further. I want to take this relatable and adorable tale to the world!!!
The Story of Moon Bear
Moon Bear tells the tale of a little forest bear who, unlike every other animal in the forest, has no day job. In fact, he sleeps during the day and only comes out at night. And that is because the only animal he can truly talk to and knows will listen isn't even an animal at all. It's the moon.
The moon gives bear great advice and tells him just what to do, and even makes things 100 times better by putting on a special light show every night. The moon opens right up and pours out what you could only find in a Van Gogh painting or Skrillex concert.
But because of this, every other animal in the forest thinks he's a freak. Why not have a day job? Are you lazy? Have you gone insane? Do what everyone else does! You think you can talk to the moon?? DON'T BE A FOOL! So naturally, bear hides away, cries himself to sleep and lives life in the shadows.
Until the day when the moon falls from the sky and tells Bear the most unfortunate secret imaginable. He has to tell someone. But what if no one listens? What if he can't get help in time? What is this blasted secret!?
Here's an old version of the storyboards for you to see where the comedy and heart takes off. Note: this is an old version of the story back when Moon Bear wasn't going to be a movie yet, so I sort dismiss it as a side project I'm "not working on." Silly me.

Style of Animation
The process for animating Moon Bear goes back to the animations of the 1930s. Back when each frame was hand drawn, traced, painted, photographed and aligned just right. Every background has to be painted meticulously. Every little speck of dirt must be drawn and registered. Of course, it will all go into the computer, but it will all start with the basics. Take a look at this video and you will see exactly what i mean.
Risks and challenges
During the process, I plan to attach many videos and photos of production. This includes new concept art, limited storyboards, voice recordings, jam sessions, music recording sessions, lunches, everything!
Now just to get one thing clear... I DO have a day job. So this project is going to happen in between shifts, on weekends, on days I'm not working. If we raise way over what we want then that won't be a problem. But just in case you are wondering, this project will take a long time. At LEAST a year. Maybe even two. We will see. Thank you for your consideration, i will not disappoint. Thanks :)
