It's been over a year since the successful funding of my first Gup the Sailor novel: The Dangerous Voyage of Gup the Sailor! And even earlier this year, I'd come back to my readers, asking for them to join Gup's crew once more... and prepare for the second volume of Gup the Sailor's adventure! However, due to Hurricane Harvey, my family lost almost everything in the flooding that came with that storm, and I was forced to shut down my original Kickstarter campaign for this book, as the aftermath of that storm became more of a challenge than I'd ever anticipated! Beyond rebuilding, there were so many new and unexpected adversities to overcome...
But now, after months of recovery, and a renewed passion to move forward with Gup's tales, I return to my readers, the modern pirating community, and buccaneer enthusiasts once again! I encourage you to continue or lend your support of my writing by backing a novel that meets the modern literary adventure needs of children from ages of 10 to 100!
Yes, even the young-at-heart can find themselves inspired by Gup's stories, which pay homage to classic adventure fiction narratives, with a modern twist that today's readers won't be able to put down! And by backing Gup the Sailor and the Devil to Pay, you will also be helping me support independent publishing professionals whom I've selected to contribute to these novels, and make them best books they can be. Your generous backer pledges will go directly to funding these necessary production costs of this novel:
*Professional Editor, Patti Geesey
*Professional Cover Illustrators at BoBooks & Audio Recording Company JaCl Corp Studios
*Backer Reward Costs at IngramSpark (pre-ordered printed copy of the book, signed by the author)
*and the Publishing Group MommaShark Press who handles promotional video editing, marketing expertise, and social media marketing tips.
I'd like to thank my backers again: from my last KickStarter Campaign to my backers from my previous attempt at crowdfunding this book (which was posted too soon after the destruction of Hurricane Harvey,) and to finally thank you, YES YOU, in advance for your consideration and pledges for my upcoming novel: Gup the Sailor and the Devil to Pay!
Risks and challenges
One of the greatest risks I faced this past year was trying to meet a publishing deadline for my upcoming novel Gup the Sailor and the Devil to Pay, after my family's home and all our belongings were completely wiped out by the flooding during Hurricane Harvey. My original plan was to use the funds from my first published book to produce my second novel, but with the financial strains of surviving a natural disaster, that plan had to be tossed out in favor of keeping my family's financial needs afloat during our time of displacement and loss. My town sustained over 40" of water during that storm, and having to live in temporary accommodations for months made finding the time, money, and inner peace to market my first novel (and complete and produce my current one) a momentous challenge! And the risk I take by turning back to Kickstarter again is not meeting my financial goals, thereby failing to have Gup the Sailor and the Devil to Pay published by my deadline, or possibly at all. Since the hurricane, I've had to move my publication date back several months behind my original schedule. I've even had to give up on a previous attempt to crowdfund here on Kickstarter, because of the unforeseen challenges post-Harvey life dropped in my lap. This has made keeping my reader-engagement difficult, as readers must wait even longer to find out what happens to our hero next! The good news is, I am deeply committed to my readers and Gup's story, and will stop at nothing to deliver an adventure that will take them away on another incredible journey! As they say... come hell or high water!
