B.CALLA and I would like to formally welcome you to our transy girlfriend Utopia.
This is a project I have dreamed of making for a long time. The Sally Johnson character is a study in creative excess, feminist ideologies, glamour and the seemingly impossible potential of contriving self-agency. This venture into a large multi-media project and collaboration with B.CALLA marks a turning point for Sally: to achieve the spectacle of superficiality she's always teetered on becoming and rethink the situation, in situ.
Sally has an insatiable need to be recognized as a valid psychic being despite, and perhaps because of her flippant adherence to "lifestyle": the very instability she illustrates is what makes her possible and animate. The “she” here is worth elaborating on. Sally is the concept of a woman, a feeling, a place of creative process and the breakdown of community formation based on the site of this identification. She is both a provocateur of lesbian separatist idealism and the image of its anti-thesis. She is the product of the spectacle as well as an orator of dissent. She is both abundant possibility and immanent failure: if her aspirational title is diva, then her tibre is doubt.
Combining songs by Britney Spears, Ke$ha and Crass with writings by Monique Wittig and Valerie Solanas, Sally's journey promises to be contentious, cacophonous, and cunty.
Sally will be played by five different actors, including myself, and each persona/Act will have it's own distinctive location along with a LQQK constructed by B.CALLA.
B.CALLA is a label run by Brad Callahan, a graduate from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He currently resides in Brooklyn and has worked with Jean Paul Lespagnard, GERLAN JEANS, and PETROUMAN. B.CALLA celebrates: "Bad taste is best taste," "more is more" and "there is no gender." Color, fun and humor define B.CALLA.
This will be B.CALLA's second full collection in addition to the "LQQKS" project, a monthly installment of outrageous and concise ready-to-wear concept looks. Your support will make it possible not only for B.CALLA to take the helms as costume designer for this project but to translate our collaboration into his Spring/Summer 2013 collection!
The majority of your support will go towards financing the wardrobe for this project, seeing B.CALLA as a crucial informant to Sally's concept and legacy. It's really important that this element of "A Alternatives" be precise, but we would also like to extend our collaboration further! Any extra funds we receive will go towards furthering B.CALLA's Spring collection and also towards a *LIVE PERFORMANCE ELEMENT* to Sally's script! Your generous support is going to radically direct the scope of this project, so THANKS!
