About this project
THE GAME: TradeOff is the game of stock market supremacy. It pits two to six players against each other in one simple challenge - to make the most money on the stock market so as to out-bid each other for luxury items. However the stock market is volatile and unpredictable. Take-over bids, profit warnings, insider trading and much more, all contribute to make TradeOff an exciting and strategic roller-coaster ride from beginning to end.
NO ORDINARY BOARD GAME: Having worked in the city for a while along side some bankers and seen the big money and high drama for himself, Jonathan, the game's designer, realised that the stock market couldn't be captured by the traditional board game format. Instead of using paper money, share certificates and a board TradeOff is more akin to the casino with cards for poker-like play, chips and a roulette-like mat.
HOW IT WORKS: The mat acts as the stock market and consists of four stocks. During the course of the game each stock's value independently rises and falls as dictated by the cards that players collect. Players can predict these rises and falls by studying their own cards and watching how their opponents are investing.
Making an investment is easy. Players select a stock they think will rise in value and simply place a number of their chips on the mat next to the stock's share price marker. Profit and losses are easily calculated by either using the numbers printed on the mat or by using the free app available on our website.
But it's not only the cards that determine how the stock's values will change. When players invest in, or sell an investment, the stock's value rises or falls accordingly. This gives players the chance to be nasty to each other by reducing the value of their opponents investments!
Throughout the course of the game auctions are held for luxury items. During these auctions players must out-bid each other to secure the purchase of the item. The first player to obtain the requisite number of luxury items wins the game.

TRADEOFF IS FINALLY READY! After 6 years of countless prototypes and endless testing we are pleased to say that TradeOff is finally ready to release. It looks great and plays perfectly. The final step though has been to source materials that help to make the game a truly unique experience.
WHAT IS IN THE BOX? Because we have worked hard to use great components the box is heavier than average weighing in at just less than a bottle of Champagne! So what makes it so heavy? The mat: Made from 100% recycled tyres measuring 28 x 12 inches Cards: 2 packs of waxed cards Chips: 180 plastic chips each measuring 1.2 inches in diameter plus a further 30 lower denomination card chips Luxury item cards: 24 Market condition cards: 4 Bid sheet pad: 1 Rules: 1 x 8 page booklet.
REWARD #2 & #3 - TRADEOFF BOTTLE COOLER: Winning TradeOff should of course be celebrated with a bottle of perfectly chilled Champagne. Below is a sample of the bottle cooler included in Rewards #2 and #3 which will help to ensure the taste of victory is as good as it can be (Champagne not included!).
REWARD #8 & #9 - TRADEOFF ADVANCED: If you already know your way around the stock market and fancy heading straight to the City's deep-end then try TradeOff Advanced. Based on the standard game the advanced version introduces additional trading options such as short-selling and additional facilities to allow players to use long and short stops. To provide these extra functions we have added a second 28 x 12 inch mat, extra pieces and a larger rule book. TradeOff Advanced can also be played as the standard game.
STRETCH GOALS: If, with your help, TradeOff goes on a run and we pass our target we will add even more to each game at the following funding milestones:
KICKSTARTER EXCLUSIVE DIVIDEND! Good stocks pay dividends and TradeOff is no different. As an extra reward for our Kickstarter supporters we will add a number of exclusive 'Luxury Item' cards to all games offered through Kickstarter.
INSIDER INFORMATION: Last year we exhibited TradeOff at the London Toy Fair, the only dedicated toy, game and hobby trade exhibition in the UK. Over the course of the three days we received great feed-back from the trade and public alike. Below are a few of their comments:
AND FINALLY: We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has taken an interest in this project. We are really excited about TradeOff's six weeks on KickStarter and hopefully we will be introducing many new people to TradeOff in the near future.

Risks and challenges
With 6 years of R&D most of the obstacles and challenges associated with this type of project have been successfully navigated. The design is complete, materials chosen and suppliers have been arranged. However we are aware that even with the best laid plans there can be surprises. Quality control and logistics are two areas we have identified as particularly important post funding. We are therefore going to be working very hard with our supply chain to ensure that all sets of TradeOff are produced to the highest quality and all distribution is carried out efficiently. It's important to us that we meet your expectations in these aspects and leave the game itself to exceed them!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
