"Dark Before Dawn" At The LA Womens Film Festival!

We always joke that we had to move to Los Angeles to meet people from Chicago.

Everywhere we turn there is another new face that we greet like an old friend just because we both hail from the Windy City and understand what it is like to try to get used to a place where it is always sunny and there isn't an Italian Beef stand on every corner.

For the past few days I have been volunteering at the LA Women's Film Festival: a perennial favorite in the Blue Damen Festival Circuit and every time I see a film from Chicago- and you can usually pick them out of a lineup- I get a little twinge of longing for home.

So it is lucky for me that a little bit of Chicago will be coming to me here in Los Angeles tomorrow in the form of Pete Garlock and Amy Karen: the two wonderful actors who turned the "lets-make-a-movie-with-no-script-and-no-budget-late-at-night-in-Elgin" into a reality. The film, of course, is "Dark Before Dawn" and tomorrow night it will be closing out the film festival at the Laemmle Music Hall Theatre on Wilshire Blvd.

Everyone is invited, of course, tickets are $10 at the door or can be purchased in advance online at

We look forward to seeing you there!

"Dark Before Dawn" Goes To Hollywood!

Great news, scenesters!

"Dark Before Dawn" is going to Hollywood. That's right: from the quiet night streets of Elgin Illinois to the bright lights and movie stars of Sunset Strip and you knew about it before it was even a "thing".

We have once again been selected to be the closing night film for a film festival and this time we will be gracing the screen of the Sundance Cinema on Sunset Strip for the Los Angeles Women's FIlm Festival on March 24th, 2013. If you already hail from the golden coast we'd love to see you at the screening and if you've ever wanted to see Tinseltown this might just be the excuse you've been waiting for! (We recommend The Standard Hollywood- it's so hipster it's almost inscrutable and it's walking distance from the theatre.)

At any rate I'm sure you're just waiting for me to finish blathering so you can make your travel arrangements so I'll get right to the relevant details:

Gwydhar will be there. Danellyn will be there. There is often a party afterwards. Be there or be a polygon!

DVDs and Sundance

Sadly we just received our notice from Sundance saying that "Dark Before Dawn" was not accepted to the 2013 festival. This is a shame, of course, but are we surprised?

Not really, no. Here's why:

In 2012 the Sundance Film Festival received 12,146 Submissions. They accepted 170 films. That means our chances of being accepted was about 1%.

We'd try to make up some joke about being part of the 99% here but that's so 2011.

At any rate we are in good company and we'll just keep trucking along to get "Dark Before Dawn" up on the big screen.  In the meantime it has come to our attention that some of you loyal supporters never received your DVD of the finished movie. We totally sent them! If you were supposed to get a DVD and you didn't send us an email right away so we can send you one as soon as humanly possible.

Lastly, if you want to check out our new Demo Reel featuring clips from "Dark Before Dawn" be sure to check it out here:

Yeah, We're A Big Deal Now.

Not that this is any news to you.

After all, you knew us before "Dark Before Dawn" was a maniacal gleam in the director's eye.

Heck: you knew about us when we still thought "Night Train" was a pretty good title for a movie. It was good enough for Guns N Roses, after all. We still consider it a lucky day when "Nighttrain" (the song) comes on the radio. Like it did today. It reminded us that we ought to send you a quick update about how our screening went!

This time last week we were gathering in preparation for our festival premiere at The United Festival; Chicago. This was completely a mature and sophisticated activity that in NO WAY turned into an impromptu pub crawl. (On a completely unrelated note, the Mystic Celt and the Duke of Perth are both within walking distance of the Music Box Theatre...) Ah but can you blame us? It was an exciting day! Our little film is all grown up and out in the world!

What better way to celebrate this rite of passage than with a gathering of cast and crew and Blue Damen Alums? Our stars: Pete Garlock and Amy Karen were both there. Gwydhar was there. We also had surprise cameo appearances from actors from all three of our previous three films "Persephone", "The Visionary", and "Mattress World" which made us feel unbelievably special!

So far we have no other screenings in the works, but we are still submitting to festivals around the world. As a matter of fact we just submitted to a film festival in Liverpool, UK so who knows? Our next event might just take us out into the wider world!

In the meantime, if you haven't already done so, please be sure to visit our "Dark Before Dawn" imdb page to rate us! We have 9 ratings so far and would love to have your input as well!
