Working Class began in 2007 as an online zine that has now been in print for the past two issues. What began as the idea that a couple of kids from Greenpoint could start a magazine profiling the rapidly growing art scene in the area is now an actual website and print zine read by hundreds of people in that same community.
The project continues to grow and expand through friends and friends of friends, including more of the community's art, music, fashion and social scenes. To date, all the work is done for free. Working Class is happy to provide our free zine to the community.
We have been hard at work on Issue #11 Print #3, "The Relationship Issue". We wanted to explore various aspects of relationships and what that word means to people. The official launch date for the site was August 1, 2010, and we are hoping the printing costs will be fully funded by August 25 so we can pay the printer and get it out on the streets by the beginning of September.
All funds we receive will be used solely for the printing costs of our third printed issue, which will be available for free at local coffee shops, boutiques and bookstores throughout Brooklyn and New York City.
Like we said, nobody gets paid to do this project. We do it for the love of the art and the people that make it. Our goal is to get the work of these talented folks on the streets and into the hands of people in the community and beyond.
