It isn’t every day you get the opportunity to work with someone like Stefan Pokorny of Dwarven Forge on a project, especially one that combines his incredible talent for sculpting and my penchant for spinning an epic adventure. This month just happens to be filled with those kinds of days as Art of the Genre gets to dive into the Dwarven Forge world of Mythras and flesh out a part of Valoria, the world’s greatest city.
This campaign blends Stefan’s already established mastery of his city with my own desire to find a particularly cool part and make it my own. The Folio #8 will be the first in a trilogy of adventures that feature The Patina Court, a neighborhood inside Valoria. Alongside Stefan, I’ve crafted the story while also physically building encounter points using his incredible terrain. Included below are various videos of me ‘learning the ropes’, so to speak, of what a Dwarven Forge build looks like, as well as detailing exactly what I’ve used to get there.
Now any of you that have gotten our Folios before, not to worry, we are still giving you all the goodies that have made us what we are. Adventures feature removable covers (to act as DM screens and give good views of maps), 3D maps detailed with an artist’s flair, standard OSR ‘blue’ maps so you can see exactly how big things are, a standalone Gazetteer booklet that provides features to the setting, and a standalone Adventure that will open the door to Valoria itself.
I certainly hope you will join us on this epic adventure, and as always, AotG will deliver our product with blinding speed, initial physical deliveries are in April, THE MONTH AFTER THE CAMPAIGN ENDS! Thanks again for taking a gander at this campaign, and as always, great gaming!
What are we hoping to achieve? Easy, we want to provide everyone with the Hidden Valoria experience, and that means creating the entire trilogy if possible. We’ve already begun work each Folio, and we’ve also developed some really fun and fast stretch goals to take us not only to the full trilogy, but also really bring The Patina Court to life. For this campaign, we are seeking $5000 for Folio #8, but as you can see, we’ve geared things to let everyone enjoy the full trilogy, so look at the reward levels closely!
What game mechanics are these set in? Well, they will be in OSR 1E as well as the newly developed 5E rules. These are combined in each module, so you can choose to play either with ease.
What is in it? I'll let the video below show you.
Do I need Dwarven Forge terrain to play these? Nope, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t fun to build alongside the adventure. I’ve designed these to go hand-in-hand with Dwarven Forge terrain sets, but if you aren’t a miniatures player, the Folios are set up just like all those before, ready for a full imagination adventure.
What is Dwarven Forge? Well, Dwarven Forge is a fantastic fantasy terrain company out of Westport Connecticut that has run some of the most successful tabletop gaming Kickstarters in the history of the platform. Right now, they are running one in conjunction with us for Castle sets so go check it out HERE! You can get a great view of their work in the videos below and can purchase any of the sets you see featured on their website. ALSO, don’t forget that Dwarven Forge is also featuring exclusive ‘add-on’ builds on their Kickstarter that were made for The Folio, so don’t miss out on those! For more on Stefan and Dwarven Forge, you can view the trailer of his upcoming documentary Dwarvenaut!
What exactly do I get with each backer level? Here is a helpful chart!
Like our characters, we start at Level 1 and see if we survive. This is my Level 1 build DF Sets used: Game Tiles Set, Dungeon Passage Pack 1,2 & 3.
Still a Level 1 build (you know it takes a couple of sessions to reach 2nd level). DF Sets used: Game Tile Set
Level Two build as I start to expand on what I've learned. DF Sets used: Game Tile Set, Narrow Dungeon Passage Pack, Catacombs Set 2.
Another Level 2 build, this one expanding to use catacombs for a nice crypt in Folio #8. DF Sets used: Game Tiles Set, Catacombs Set 1 & 2, Dungeon Passage Pack 1.
First Level 2 build for Folio #9! DF Sets used: Caverns Set x2!
The AotG color map interiors feature artist renderings to give DMs great ‘vision’ on what the characters are viewing. We also feature standard hex maps for easy reference, and our topographical city maps (which will detail The Patina Court) also provide great reference for player movement inside their environment.
Each Folio features a fully removable cover that can be used as a DM screen and also provides easy reference for the places inside each adventure. This particular example comes from Folio #2 and features full dungeon level as well as city overview, very similar to what you’ll be seeing in Folio #8.
Folio #9 available through stretch goals. Continue the trilogy with your backing.
Folio #10 also available through stretch goals! Spread the word and continue the adventure!
Within each Folio you’ll find the Adventure Booklet, and we’ve taken the time to show you just what is going to be in store for you during this trilogy. I hope you enjoy what you see, as we had a great time putting them together. Art by AotG alumni Chet Minton, with a shout out to Jim Holloway.
