Art of the Genre is proud to partner with Pinnacle Entertainment Group in bringing our fans Folio #7! After completing the Roslof Keep Campaign it seemed a perfect point to sidestep to Savage Worlds for an adventure in the Deadlands: Hell on Earth setting. It is an absolutely fantastic setting with an award-winning mechanic that I hope all our fans will give a shot.
With Folio #7, we will be blending the same OSR specs that our fans have grown accustomed to with the previous issues while also blending in some aspects of the Deadlands: Hell on Earth design. I truly hope you'll have a much fun playing this adventure as my players did, and as always thanks for taking the time to check out our latest projects here on Kickstarter.
And as always, Instead of making gaming anvils, I’ve drilled the artistry of the game down, found the gems of a fast-paced adventure, and delivered it in such a way that both new and old gamers alike can enjoy and play without taxing their life schedules. In the end, isn’t gaming about being fun for everyone, not just the players? The Folio’s goal is to ensure that, and always give folks the very best quality ‘lean and mean’ adventures we can.
My Project: The Folio #7 is a single shrink-wrapped adventure module based on Savage Worlds: Deluxe mechanics and set in the Deadlands: Hell on Earth setting. Each will be produced as an 8x11”, removable cover [11x17" once removed], adventure with mostly b/w interior artwork. There are two interior booklets, The Field Guide for setting specifics, and the Adventure which details the challenges facing the players. All told, the final size will be roughly 40 pages of content.
Who’s it for? ALL gamers, both new gamers and old gamers, as it is easily expandable or playable as is.The concept is to allow gamers a starting point for adventure that can be modified to their liking while providing excellent reference content and framework. Again, the base mechanic will be for Savage Worlds: Deluxe, but I’ve designed it to be readily modified to any post-apocalyptic game.
What’s in it? All original content. It has been written by myself, with incredible cover art from TSR legend Keith Parkinson, and interior artwork by skilled black and white illustrators, Chet Minton, Michael Wilson, Josh Godin and Jeff Laubenstein. This Folio will contain a 3-D map, a Field Guide, a new Edge unique to the setting, GM’s notes and guides, and a full adventure.
About Deadlands:Deadlands is a Weird Western by Pinnacle Entertainment Group (www.peginc.com) where the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, known as the Reckoners, are trying to bring about a Hell on Earth so they can walk upon it in the flesh. They do this by nurturing fear to drench the earth in dark, supernatural energy that can sustain their physical manifestation.
That’s the “meta level” and the back story that ties all the various Deadlands games together—the original Weird Western, the post-apocalyptic “Wasted” West” of Hell on Earth, Deadlands Noir, and Deadlands Lost Colony—which takes place on the far fringes of space.
By defeating these terrors, the players are slowly—bit by bit—battling the Reckoners as well. Besides lightning-fast gunslingers, brave Indian warriors, and other standards in the Weird West, Deadlands also has a number of “arcane backgrounds,” characters who have developed supernatural powers to fight the good fight. Hucksters make dark bargains for power, hurling playing cards charged with energy or casting other “hexes” and spells. Mad scientists use a super fuel called “ghost rock” to power infernal gizmos and weapons. Shamans channel power from nature spirits, and the blessed draw spiritual magic directly from the distant but always present powers of good.
Most importantly, in the world of Deadlands, those with particularly strong wills can come back from the dead—hence the name "Harrowed.". The price is high though—the Harrowed crawl out of their graves by way of “manitous,” evil spirits that vie for control of their host. Those Harrowed who maintain “dominion” over their demonic rider can quickly develop additional supernatural powers as well.
When? As always, the bulk of The Folio #7 is complete, we only need to be funding so we can begin the full printing process. Delivery will be in March 2016. WE ARE FAST!
Why Savage Worlds? Because it is AWESOME! I've been a gamemaster in countless settings, with countless mechanics over the past 35 years, but Savage Worlds is just so damn easy to play. It is easy for players, and more importantly it is easy on those running the game. There is a reason it won the Gamer's Choice Award at Origins! Also, I'm a child of the Cold War, so post-apocalyptic settings always have intrigued me, and Deadlands: Hell on Earth is simply one of the best to play.
I can’t do this without you! We here at Art of the Genre need your help! We've trimmed out all excess costs and have a break even amount of $5,000 per Folio. This covers the printing, shipping, design, mapping, and the incredible story telling artwork we’ll be using in these adventures. We have already devoted countless hours to seeing this product come together, but to make it ‘real’ and available to all players, we need your help. We believe in this dream, and we hope you do too!
What happens if we pass the goal? If we pass the goal, it will allow us to begin production on new stretch additions for this particular adventure, including side 'mini-adventures' as well as setting seeds and more Field Guides to help flesh out this little piece of the Wasted West. Bottom line, our goal is to make a truly fantastic and age-defying piece of gaming history, each penny we receive goes toward that. This ‘put everything into the product’ mentality is why this Kickstarter is so thin on ‘rewards’, as physical SWAG steals from the overall content of the project, the product, and the backers, as well as slowing the process of getting the module into your hands!
