A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

The Ayres and Co glasses case is precision engineered from a solid block of aircraft grade aluminium. Its sleek, slimline design offers protection for your eyewear with a touch of style.
Proudly designed and manufactured in Great Britain, our glasses case is suitable for use with both spectacles and sunglasses.
The discovery of this spectacles case made me realise that all my previous cases had been the case which came free with my lenses, which lacked both style and durability. Therefore I set out on a journey to find a similar elegant and modern spectacles case but found nothing that could match the quality my grandfather’s had shown. It dawned on me that I would have to go about making my own.
The design of the case was influenced by the timeless designs of the original British manufactured prototype De Havilland Comet aircraft, these weren't painted but bare metal -which added to its simple, sleek design. This crystallised the thinking around the design of the case and the material used -aircraft grade aluminium.
The Ayres & Co. glasses case has been in development for over 4 years to ensure that every aspect of the design is as faultless as it deserves to be.
As a promise to myself, and my family's legacy, I ensured the new glasses case was designed to match the three most important qualities of the original:
Each case is masterfully crafted from aircraft grade aluminium in a form that truly represents the original British De Havilland Comet Aircraft, first manufactured in the United Kingdom. This durable material ensures that the glasses inside will remain safe from any bumps, mishaps or unfortunate sitting accidents!.
The original case began to rust over time, but the use of high grade aluminium will allow the Ayres & Co case to last much longer.
The customisable TPE rubber insert not only provides additional protection for your eyewear but also softens the opening and closing noise to a satisfying snap.
The shape and style of the glasses case remain true to the simple design of my grandfather's original case. With its sleek curves and brushed aluminium shell, our glasses case is a thing of beauty. Adding a touch of flair when issued from a handbag or suit pocket.
As the first jetliner, the De Havilland Comet holds a legacy for helping to advance aircraft design, simillarly we want our cases to create a legacy for modernising eyewear accessories.
It was important to ensure that, like the Comet, each case is a result of a combination of the very best in British craftsmanship.
With a background in aerospace and motorsport and based in Bridgwater, Somerset -M-CNC proved to be the ideal manufacturing partner for our aluminium shell.

The name also acts as a promise and a reminder that the case embodies the three qualities put forth by myself to ensure each Ayres & Co case is held to standard.
