About this project
The internet should be a place where one can freely seek & share information. With Kiri we are giving you a secure and affordable solution. – Dyc Studio
‘Kiri’ translates to ‘Fog’ in Japanese; a place where you are able to be hidden but move around freely.
It is the Mini Computer that is designed to make all of your internet activity un-traceable and un-watchable. With this small computer you can perform your everyday tasks as well as creation/transfer of sensitive data without worrying about hackers or curious enterprises. When using Kiri, the feeling of freedom is truly unreal.
Please note: the work we are doing is NOT the hardware, we are building an operating system and optimizing it to run on Raspberry Pi hardware. We are also designing and manufacturing cases to enclose the computer.
Since most of the magic happens on the software side of things, we decided to build an operating system that is as secure as possible while also being extremely easy to use. After looking at a variety of hardware solutions (including manufacturing our own) and with ease of use in mind, we finally chose the Raspberry Pi to bring our software to life. This is because it is powerful, portable and very effective in running Kiri OS. Here are the specs:
• 1.2GHz Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A53
• 802.11 bgn Wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.1 (Bluetooth Classic and LE)
• 1GB RAM
• 4 x USB ports
• 4 pole Stereo output and Composite video port
• Full size HDMI port
• 10/100 BaseT Ethernet socket
• Micro USB power source
At Dyc Studio, we are a team of software engineers with a vision that the internet can be a safer place for everyone, not just those who are skilled enough to pull it off. We have also had help from a certain un-named ‘elite’ hacker who was able to hack in to our first prototype. With his help we are able to test how safe Kiri can be, and it has reached a stage where even an elite hacker cannot penetrate the system.
The operating system itself is based on Linux and uses Gnome Shell to provide an incredibly easy to use and familiar interface (for Mac OSX users). Although it is based on an existing operating system, Kiri OS is VERY far from being just Linux.
In fact we have built most software from scratch, meaning there is nobody, except the engineers, who is able to determine how our security software works. The whole system works as one to bring an experience that requires absolutely no knowledge of computers to use it. This is because everything happens automatically in the background. However Kiri Assistant™ will pop-up during your first few days of use just to give you some tips on staying anonymous.
1. Plug in the power adapter and your keyboard & mouse
2. Plug in a TV or Monitor via HDMI
3. Use Kiri OS to do whatever you like
Kiri is simple to use but a lot happens in the background to make you anonymous. All of your activity is passed through the Tor network which relays your traffic across over seven thousand ip-addresses.
Tor is a software developed by the US Government and is the same network used by government agents to keep their identities and locations hidden. This network is not generally easy to access, but now with Kiri, it is.
The best part of Kiri Os is that it connects through our own VPN servers in an un-disclosed location. The VPN servers are dedicated to Kiri OS users, but don't make that think its easier to pin-point you. Our VPN network will be optimized to automatically switch users between ip-addresses on the server infrastructure at random intervals.
For those who don't understand how VPNs work: It is a private network of servers which will route all of you internet traffic via encrypted signals. Since the VPN servers are dedicated to Kiri OS users, it will perform faster than any other shared VPN server.
And best of all, there are no subscription costs for our VPN service it's just free with Kiri Computer.
There are also various differences with Kiri os and a standard operating system that allow you to stay anonymous. There is unique software built in to boost the performance of Tor as well as stop you from revealing yourself accidentally.
Kiri is not just about staying anonymous online. The computer is designed to protect you from a variety of online dangers:
• Malicious software
• Computer Viruses
• Online Scams
• Identity Fraud
• Internet activity surveillance
We consider internet surveillance as a threat as we believe that it is ethically wrong to watch over internet activity and invade a persons privacy without their permission.
Firstly, the most helpful thing and least we could ask of you, is to share this page and spread the word about Kiri. We will be incredibly thankful for this and try our best to directly thank each and every one of you.
With the money gathered by this campaign we will be able to complete Kiri OS and Kiri Computer and finally release it to the world. Here’s an overview of what we need most:
• Additional Software Engineers to help us finish the process of building what we think is the worlds most secure operating system which anybody can use.
• Time; to finish the project and test the computer as much as possible.
• Manufacture of Kiri casing and product packaging/assembly
• Design of Kiri OS Theme and interface
• Advertising so we can spread the word
• Cost of running VPN servers in various locations around the world

Risks and challenges
What are the Risks of completing this project:
The main risk for us is the fulfilment of our manufacturers and parts assembly specialists. However since we know this is a risk, we set out to find the best possible solutions by getting various companies to create our prototype. We then chose the second best as a 'backup' manufacturer. So it should all be covered.
Another issue that we might come across, is providing Kiri at the prices here on Kickstarter. We have also accounted for this by running multiple calculations and making sure all factors of Kiri's production will make it available at the stated prices.
If any of the above problems do occur (very unlikely), we will not ask our backers to pay extra. Instead, we will pay for any additional costs ourselves. So don't worry about it!
Challenges: Why is Dyc Studio the best to develop Kiri?
Our team is a mixture of professional designers, software engineers and user experience specialists. With all of us together, we will be able to create the world's most secure operating system, which looks amazing and anyone can use it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
