Before it was a business, marijuana was fun! STONED AGE is going to be fun, we promise! So let's have fun.
About STONED AGE:
STONED AGE is a brand-new publication that will be distributed (for free!) around the New England/New York area. It’s being published by people who were involved with High Times magazine in the 1970s, '80s and '90s (before it became “The Corporate Giant of the Cannabis Industry.”)
What is STONED AGE all about?
STONED AGE intends to bring back the fun of 20th century marijuana culture, when it was the choice of hipsters, beatniks, jazz musicians, hippies, and other misfits. Not that we are opposed to making money from marijuana: In fact, we plan to celebrate its legalization as often as possible. However, we hope to remind people why cannabis is a totem of outlaw cultures, rebels and outcasts.
Who is contributing to the first issue and what’s in it?
We don’t want to ruin the surprise of who will appear on the cover of the first issue just yet. Anyhow we are still putting everything together. Stoned Age is a newspaper that will cover things of interest (especially related to the east coast cannabis scene), as well as the past history of marijuana, humor, pot culture and a lot of fun stuff you will hopefully enjoy.
Harry Crossfield Jr.:
Publisher Harry was the High Times Advertising Director in the 1990s, when he helped to push the magazine to unheard-of levels of advertising revenue. Harry and John have been working on the Master Plan for STONED AGE over the last few years!
Editor John met Tom Forcade, the founder of High Times, in the 1970s. Forcade named Holmstrom as one of the the best magazine people in the world back in the day. In 1987, Holmstrom began to work at High Times magazine as an editor, then the (print) Publisher, and created the first High Times magazine Website.
"Head" Writer Aido and John are working on new Hep Cat comic strips, which were a staple of High Times in the late 1980s. They've been collaborating on creative projects since 1982, when Aido hired John to draw a cover for his song "Big Fun" (which can be seen and heard in our kickstarter video!).
We’re in contact with some other former High Times contributors who are interested in working with us but we also plan to showcase new writers, illustrators and creative people. Stay tuned!

Why are we raising money through Kickstarter?
We don’t need a lot of money to publish STONED AGE since it’s a small newspaper. This is an easy way for us to gain the support of friends, family and fans. We do plan to “grow” Stoned Age quickly, because we think that people are going to like it once they check it out.

Risks and challenges
John Holmstrom has edited and/or published dozens of magazines, ‘zines, comic books, etc.: Punk magazine, Comical Funnies (with Peter Bagge), STOP! magazine (with J.D. King), High Times magazine (from 1991-1997), the NORMLthon comic book, High Life comics, the Bosko #1 comic book, DomeLand #1 (in 1973), and more. Barring a natural catastrophe, an invasion of Bigfoot creatures, a UFO alien takeover of the U.S. government (or worse)? Stoned Age #1 will be published in Spring 2018.
