UPDATED: This is it. We're making a Veronica Mars movie! Now the only question is: how big can we make it? We need your help!
91,585 backers pledged $5,702,153 to help bring this project to life.

21 Days Left Until EVERYONE can see Veronica Mars.

Earlier this week, I promised we'd have more news about international and digital release plans next week. Since then, details came together faster than we were expecting, so there's no need to wait.

I've got some news I think you'll all be excited about.

On March 14, Veronica Mars will be available to everyone, worldwide.

If your rewards include a digital version of the movie, you'll get it on March 14.

If your rewards didn't include a copy of the movie, or you've got friends who didn't back the project, the movie will also be available to EVERYONE on March 14 through participating digital platforms, cable providers and satellite services.

I'll share more specifics in a moment. First, I want to explain why I think this is exciting.

As I explained in the last update, getting a movie into a theater might sound easy, but believe me: I had courtside seats this season, and it's not. Despite that, the WB Distribution team managed to get the movie into a few hundred theaters, in several countries. It's possible that we'll be able to add more theaters to that list. It's just as possible that we won't. But no matter what, we would never be able to get the movie into a theater near every backer. We wanted to. I think you know that.

Getting into more theaters might also have been easier if we hadn't promised that backers at $35 and up would receive digital copies of the movie within a few days of the film's release. It's basic math: movie theaters try to show movies that people will come out to see, and that's a riskier proposition when 65,000+ people get copies of the movie on opening weekend.

To me, the most important goal was always to make sure that every backer would be able to see the movie as soon as possible. That's what we promised when you jumped on board last spring, and today, I'm pleased to say that we've kept that promise:

Backers and fans around the world will be able to see Veronica Mars, on March 14 – the same day it is released in US theaters.

Now, let me explain how this is going to work.

1. On March 14, Veronica Mars will be available, both to rent and purchase from DIGITAL RETAILERS (such as iTunes and Amazon) and on-demand through participating CABLE and SATELLITE providers, worldwide.

2. This also means that, on March 14, ALL backers whose rewards include digital copies of Veronica Mars will receive instructions for streaming and downloading the movie. That means that if you pledged at the $35 level or higher, you will be able to see the movie opening weekend.

(In a week or two, we'll have more specific details on that process.)

For a movie to be released in selected theaters in multiple countries and available to rent and purchase and watch on-demand worldwide, all on the same day? It's pretty much unheard of. And since everything about this movie is unprecedented, I'm pleased that our distribution plans are too.

I know you've got more questions, and as I get more information, I'll do my best to answer them.

For today, I'm just going to enjoy this:

Veronica Mars will be available worldwide on March 14.

So there it is, gang. Three weeks -- 21 days -- until you can see the movie: not just in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland and Germany, but everywhere.

Have a great weekend.

    5. Gal Degabli on March 7, 2014

So.. if that's the case, how come when i tried just now to pre-order the digital download from Amazon it told me this:

      We are sorry...

We could not process your order because of geographical restrictions on the product which you were attempting to purchase. Please refer to the terms of use for this product to determine the geographical restrictions.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

please, please fix this. I feel like i've been, excuse me for the language, screwed up enough for not living inside US territories.

Would you be able to release a list telling us what times we'll be able to download the movie around the world? I want to be able to plan out a watching party with my friends (hopefully on my birthday - March 14!!)

When I saw the news that ALL of us Marshmallows worldwide will get to see the Movie on the premier date I felt almost as exited as I did when I first found the VM kickstarter page . Im SOO happy ! :)

    9. Triana Biggers on February 27, 2014

Best news!!! I would be driving 6 or more hours to the nearest AMC. Can't wait to view the movie the same day as all fellow marshmallows.

Bought tickets (2 wheelchair. I had to confirm my companion's seat—they have have to provide it.). I'm all for getting a credit; but Re: Amazon etc., can you ensure the Digital or DVD version is named Appropriately so that only we buy the Digital (Onegin

    11. Sanna Söderström on February 26, 2014

I WHIS i could se it in the theaters, but No not in Sweden, cuz our moviedistr. Sucks!!

    12. Nadine Marwick on February 26, 2014

When can we start booking our tickets in the UK??

    13. Christy Pratt on February 26, 2014

I don't think it will kill box office, I still plan on going to the movie theater to see it. You get the whole group feel and excitement.

    14. ArkhamNative on February 26, 2014

So while I was pondering the ratio of people who would / wouldn't make a 150-mile drive to see the VMM, another big studio surprised everyone by releasing Frozen (starring the voice of Kristen Bell, btw) to digital, weeks ahead of schedule and while it's still top 10 at the box office. Brave New World, eh?

    15. Paul LaDue on February 25, 2014

I don't get it. Allowing for same day digital copies will HURT VM at the box office. There is NO doubt about that.

I live in a non-AMC area. The closest theater is 150 miles away. I was planning on making that drive. Now I might not. There are probably many like me.

It just seems to me that this will hinder funding for a VM 2 film. That is bad.

Let VM come out digitally on Apr 14 instead.

      What do you think?

Really informative article on the front page of the Wall Street Journal's weekend "Business & Finance" section about how Warner Brothers and AMC Theaters are financing the break from the traditional practice of waiting months to release a movie after it debuts in theaters. Never would have expected to be reading about Veronica Mars in WSJ but they are definitely charting new territory with this. Sounds to me like the one with the most to gain by high ticket sales (besides us Marshmallows) is Warner Brothers, and since they are the ones who have to agree to any future VM projects, it's still important to get as many people to see it in theaters as possible even if you plan to buy a digital copy! Here's the link if you want to read it:…

@LittlestWinslow I agree. I plan on seeing it at least twice on the 13th, well I guess the second one starts after midnight, but close enough. I have pledged enough to get the download and physical dvd, but that is not stopping me from seeing it in the theater where the popcorn is better. I am bribing my daughter to get her friends to come out to join us at the midnight showing, not sure how that is going. :) Go Marshmallows!!

    18. Kristin Basiaga on February 24, 2014

You are such a ROCKSTAR! Thank you so much for making sure all of the fans everywhere get to see what they backed!

    19. LittlestWinslow on February 24, 2014

This is great news- everyone should still try to see it in the theater if possible. The numbers really need to be decent at least for this historic campaign to stay memorable and remain as a future pattern for other cancelled-too-soon projects. I'll be driving a little over an hour to see it (and dragging as many people as possible with me haha)

    23. Limey Bell on February 23, 2014

I'd still really love to see it multiple times in the cinemas. I know at least a dozen people that want to see it at the cinemas in Melbourne, Australia and that's just out of my small circle of friends. In fact, I'd travel anywhere in Australia to see it in the cinema!

I just read this release on Bleeding Cool about at least two novels-as-sequels for the film - sounds interesting; would love to hear more about it here please!

    29. Tom Legg on February 22, 2014

I realize it's probably too late to go this route if they weren't already planning on going this route, but what I'd love to see is another Backer Survey that asks us where we want our digital copy from. Some people want it from Google Play, some from iTunes, some from Amazon, some just a DRM free video file. The only one of the above that would work nicely for me is Google Play, yet I know others would hate that and would prefer something that melds a little nicer with their current setup.

No matter how it happens though, I'm excited to finally see this movie.

    30. Brian Jongseong Park on February 22, 2014

Thanks so much. I live in France and was even considering travelling to see this in a theatre. I still might, but it's good to know for sure that I'll be able to see it when it comes out.

I went directly from reading Rob's latest update to iTunes where I pre-ordered my digital copy. I would love to find out how many thousands (or more likely tens of thousands) of other marshmallows did the same, especially for people who don't live close enough to one of the theaters showing the film (I bought tickets to see it in two theaters anyway, even though I wasn't going to be able to show up). Thanks so much Rob, this was some of the best news yet!

I too am so excited to see the VM movie on the 13th and then again at the midnight showing and probably 2 or 3 more times opening week-end. After all we do have to beat vampire academy for box office sales, right?? Go Team Marshmallows!! Also happy to know that those backers without a theater near them can watch with the rest of us that do. Also ummm can someone explain how the digital download works( I'm in the old school ways) and I don't want to ask my son. Thanks all!

    33. Solitare Svoboda on February 22, 2014

Thanks Rob! You all are the best! My husband and I both pledged and we are looking forward to getting both our digital copy and bluray of the movie; even more, we are excited to go to the theater an hour away to see the movie with my parents! I am so glad we got the opportunity to support this project and that we get to continue supporting by seeing it in the theater! Thanks you for all of your hard work!

Just waiting on news for dates and times in the UK theatres. There is no way I'm not seeing this film in the cinema!

      Thanks again Rob and co!

Rob and everyone on the team - thank you for tirelessly working on this movie from the planning to the production right through to the post-production and what sounds like draining efforts to organise and co-ordinate distribution.

Another first for VM has to be worth celebrating.
As a backer in Ireland who will be getting his digital copy on the day, I can assure you I will still be in the cinema opening day.
I know how important it will be to show that VM is a viable proposition for future endeavours.

      Thank you!
      Can't wait.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone involved in this project. After having a baby 6 weeks ago, my husband was less than keen on the idea of his wife travelling to America to watch a film! Even the UK release was going to be tricky to get to, so the fact that I can download the film on the day of release is just amazing. You have made a rather tired new mum very happy!

    47. Danielle BN on February 22, 2014

      You guys are amazing!
There are still no updates on the UK release (AKA times and dates), but I'm sure they'll be added shortly. I'm hoping for it to be screened more than once, because I'm going to be abroad on March 14th! Learning I can still rent it has just made my day.
You guys are really the best and it's obvious you're doing it for the fans.
      I love you =]
Thank you so much for all you've done and all you're still doing!

So, does this announcement mean that there won't be any theatrical release in any other country ? (France?!)

Honestly, I strongly believe that most of the backers would love to watch Veronica Mars on a huge cinema screen. I might be wrong, but that's how I feel, and even though cinema tickets are overpriced (I rarely go to the cinema), I'd personnally love to see the movie that way, so I'm slightly disappointed.

Still looking forward to watching it, though. Obviously.
