About

It’s time to bring a human touch to the influencer industry and build a platform that champions the brands & influencers doing it right

*Update*

Thank you so much to everyone who has shared this page so far! And for your incredible feedback on what we're trying to achieve with the network.

Problem(s)

Poor campaign briefs, restricted creative freedom, content not being posted on time, opaque budgets, opaque rates, slow communication, no feedback, late payments, even no payment at all, the influencer industry has many problems. Problems for both brands AND influencers (yes, 50% of this industry is influencers, their rights should not be ignored) for which no-one is being held accountable.

Currently the influencer industry - and influencers’ worth - is being indexed against followers, engagement rates and reach. You know, all the lovely stats that can be bought and boosted. And not just for oneself, for others too - in a few clicks, anyone could buy a few thousand followers for someone they don’t like (or are envious of), flagging them to certain AI as a fraud and potentially ruining their carefully built, genuine career.

Even as bots get smarter at detecting fraudulent activity, their counter bots get smarter at dodging their tactics and exploiting the system. It’s a never ending circle of outsmarting each other.

We're not saying that there's no place for the metrics of followers, engagement rates and true reach, but as an industry we desperately need an extra data point that cannot be manipulated. For the more we invest in these alleged AI solutions to all of our problems, the less control we have, and the more precarious the future of this industry becomes.

You might have seen how much negative press the industry has been getting recently. Everyone is lamenting about those doing it wrong, we need to shine a light on those doing it right.

It’s time to take back control. It's time to bring back trust.

Solution

Influencers are, at their core, ‘word of mouth accelerated’ - their opinions are trusted (which is why influencer marketing can work so well). Why should we all not be recommended by the same treatment?

This is a human industry and it needs a human touch. We need human recommendations.

At Blogosphere, this is what we're building in the form of the Blogosphere Network, a platform where brands AND influencers can feedback - and rate each other - on what it was actually like to work with each other. To celebrate and champion those doing the best campaigns - so others can learn from them! A place to be proud of your branded content.

The network will work on a fair, dual rating system - ratings will only be made visible when both brand and influencer rate each other. This is a two-sided industry, it needs two voices.

We need balanced and professional relationships.

As an influencer, you can honestly report on how much creative freedom you were allowed by a brand and how good they were at sticking to their payment terms. How much easier would it be to decide on which brands to work with if this information was easily accessible?

As a brand, instead of just seeing an incredible sponsored Halloween make-up look, you can see how the influencer involved was rated by the brand for their ability to stick to the brief, discuss their rates and the ROI of the post.

The Blogosphere Network is going to be a place where you can champion your successful campaigns, and build your profiles. Think of it as a trusted online cv. A place you can showcase and celebrate your branded work - both as brands and influencers.

It’s time we built something that works for both sides of this young industry and helped it to mature into a stable environment where the hard working and dedicated thrive.

That is what the Blogosphere Network will do - by dissolving barriers and allowing both sides of this industry to communicate.

We learn from sharing information, no progress can really be made unless we do.

What we do

Blogosphere started in 2013 as a magazine that curated the best bits of the blogging world. Over the past 5 years, our brand has developed and in addition to our quarterly magazine, which features interviews with influencers, we also run events including the #BlogosphereAwards and the #BlogosphereFestival, and produce an industry podcast - Blogosphere: Serious Influence.

We are passionate about the influencer industry and seeing it develop into a fair space, where authentic, talented and honest creators are taken seriously.

Who we are

We are the Blogosphere team - Alice Audley, Albertine Brandon, Elaine Malone, Abbie Schofield and Jamie Edwards! We might have crossed paths at Blogosphere events or you might have read some of our articles in Blogosphere magazine… you might even have seen some of our #BlogosphereHQ Instagram stories or joined one of our Twitter chats (#BlogosphereChat)!

We are a close knit and passionate team, who want to see this industry succeed.

What will your contribution support?

Your contribution will help us build out the final stages on the platform and enable us to launch our Beta in January 2019.

What happens next?

You can sign up and register interest in becoming a member of the network as either a brand or an influencer on our website now! We will get in touch when the platform is live and ready to take users!

If you have questions/feedback (we'd love to hear from you), please direct them HERE.

Risks and challenges

As Blogosphere magazine and events are already up and running, there is very minimal risk in being able to deliver the rewards (ie - would need to be a bad incident at fulfilment centre). We're not starting them from scratch.

While we think we will be able to launch the beta version of the platform in January, there is a very limited risk that this could be pushed back to February/March. However, we are confident that we'll be able to launch in January.

As a team whose routine is based in deadlines, we thrive off hitting targets.
