About

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DON’T REACH OUR GOAL

If we don't reach our goal then we receive nothing, no rewards will be sent, and you will not be charged. You are only charged if we meet or exceed our goal. We must reach or exceed our goal or this film will not be completed to its full potential.

WHAT WE NEED THE FUNDS FOR?

We need the amount pledged to pay for archive material (footage, photographs and soundbites) which are crucial in telling this story. Much of the archives have been very difficult to find, have been lost or are quite rare, so this is reflected in the costs.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE EXCEED THE AMOUNT PLEDGED?

If we exceed the amount pledged this will be used towards the sound dubbing and colour grading which will enhance the film.

Example of archive needed: Pathe - Commonwealth Games, Australia (screenshot)

WHATS THE FILM ABOUT?

This is the remarkable story of Bobby Mallon a Boxer from Barrowfield, Glasgow who despite his visual impairment went on to win the Gold medal at the 1962 Commonwealth games in Perth, Australia as an amateur Flyweight. In his eventful career Bobby fought over 300 opponents as an Amateur Flyweight and Bantamweight, and fought and won against the likes of Alan Rudkin, Jim Watt and John McCluskey. Bobby also won an ABA title and 5 western district medals at 3 different weights.

Despite his successes Bobby Mallon has been forgotten.

This film will trace his life story from his humble beginnings, triumphs in the ring and finally his return home as a hero to the Scottish people. We will take a look at the story of the boxers that emerged from the same street as Bobby and the legacy they have left behind.

With the success of 2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow, the film will attempt to place Bobby back into the spotlight, in the hope that his story will inspire a new generation of champions from an area which has a high level of poverty and alcoholism.

Interviews:

Exclusive access to film Bobby Mallon, interviews with his brother Johnny Mallon (Imperial Army champion), Actor Paul Brannigan (Angel Shares & Under the Skin) and fellow boxers from his time who knew Bobby including Ken Buchanan (Undisputed World Champion), Dick McTaggart (Olympic Gold Medalist) and John McCluskey.

Risks and challenges

Filmmaking is always going to be a risky business.

It helps that we’ve assembled an experienced and talented crew. The pre-production and production (planning and filming) stages are now complete. All we need is the funding to push forward for the post production (assembling the film) which is the final stage. The obstacles faced at this point are issues of copyright and finding and acquiring all of the essential imagery to tell the story in an engaging way. This carries with it the possibility of delays in getting the film delivered on time.

The film is all but made – what we need is your help to see the final story in its fullest form.
