My name is Damon Robinson. I am an LA based artist, graphic designer and musician. I created these musical animals and have been printing, playing and exploring with them for a while now. They were originally a series of vignettes made to stand alone, the more I listened to them the more I realized ...they were meant to play together. So I wrote a "kids' book, for the kid in all of us"...
I chose to illustrate these creatures in the victorian era style of "scientific nature drawings", because for me it makes them real...they are "specimens and not characters." There is something compelling and exciting about a world where these creatures can actually exist, and to imagine if you will a scientist on exploration, studying the indigenous "wild life" and then sketching these fabulous specimens in his journal. The writing style uses Iambic Pentameter referencing classic childrens literature, and serving as a tool for connecting us to a time when story telling was a way to learn, teach and communicate and was not simply entertainment.
This book is about music and imagination. I believe that kids are sophisticated beyond video game hypergraphics and digital illustration, and it is my hope that this "imagined history" can be an inspiration for discovering more "new worlds", with even more fantastical creatures, that do even more amazing things....

*Here are the prints and pieces I am offering as rewards for helping this project come to life. I print everything by hand. They are all signed and numbered (and housebroken!) and looking for good homes.
Thanks to all the backers for getting this project funded!
We are fired up to be able to offer the book by itself, or as an add on to any pledge amount! Details below! Tee Shirts and "Gold Record" prints are available as $25.00 add-ons too!
We've also added a $500.00 reward level! Check it out. Thanks
Risks and challenges
If we reach our funding goals we will have enough funds to run the first edition of books with a print on demand option for additional copies. The biggest obstacle that we can foresee is timing, for example if press time or printing is longer than we anticipate. Since the book layout is complete our issues are dependent on the 3rd party printer and UPS/USPS (basically aspects which are beyond our control).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
