About this project
THE PGW - PRO GAY WRESTLING!is the second feature film/ web-series from Jaymes Thompson, the writer, producer and director of the award-winning gay horror comedy The Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror.
WHAT IS THE PGW ALL ABOUT?
The PGW - Pro Gay Wrestling is the FIRST All-Gay Pro Wrestling Federation Series to acknowledge and represent openly gay men (and possibly Lesbians) in the arena of pro wrestling and sports entertainment!
Follow the Outrageous Action and Drama of the Premiere All Gay Wrestling Federation in and outside of the ring!
The PGW - Pro Gay Wrestling! is modeled after the classic wrestling shows of the 70's and 80's. Think a gay, well, gay-er version of the WWE! Each episode consists of 2 featured matches, interviews and filmed story-lines that contain soap opera style plots and sub-plots of your soon to be favorite wrestlers! In place of Hulk Hogan, think The Gay Avenger- Who stands up to fight for gay equality everywhere and in every arena! Gay Characters are interjected instead of the typical pro wrestling stereotypes. Gay issues, representation, humor, drama and visibility are all integrated into every half hour episode.
WHY PRO GAY WRESTLING?
We feel it is very important to show gay men in under-represented areas. Professional Wrestling has always been an arena where gay men have been active and drawn to but completely ignored and often times openly ridiculed. Most gay men have been drawn to professional wrestling as part of their sexual awakening and identity but could never be allowed to be open about it. Since our Pilot Episode for the PGW has aired, and the Gay Avenger has spoken out publicly, we have been inundated with letters and grateful comments from gay men of all ages who have been waiting years and for some, lifetimes, to see themselves finally validated by seeing gay men portrayed openly and "coming out" so to speak, in the arena of professional wrestling!
WAIT, HAVEN'T I HEARD OF THE GAY AVENGER AND THE PGW BEFORE?
The PGW and The Gay Avenger have received INTERNATIONAL attention and exposure through the tabloid journal TMZ! If you didn't hear about the initial article (posted below) You may have heard The Gay Avenger speak publicly on over a half dozen International Radio Shows or read one of the many articles posted about the PGW, the Gay Avenger and his/our views of gays and hate language in professional sports today. We also have a PGW Website and a very active Facebook page with several thousand fans and followers. Several of our wrestlers also have active Facebook accounts also so their fans can have direct access to their favorite personalities.
WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT AN INDEPENDENT GAY FILM PROJECT?
As much as it seems like gays are everywhere these days, visibility doesn’t necessarily equal genuine representation. Sure, Milk and Brokeback Mountain were great, but there's a lot more to gay life than the one mainstream film that makes it to the multiplex every few years. It also grows a bit tiring to watch the main character of every gay mainstream film die in the last reel- again and again. And for every well-rounded gay character featured in a Hollywood movie, there are dozens of gay best friends and mincing queens slapped onto the screen as props or punch-lines, without any meaningful content. Meanwhile, there's a huge LGBT audience out there, eager to see their stories told, from their perspective.
That's where independent gay films come in. Removed from the pressures of million-dollar budgets and opening weekend grosses, we can focus on telling unique, personal stories about the queer experience.
THAT SOUNDS KIND OF GRIM.
We know, right? But not all gay indies are painful coming-of-age dramas (not that there's anything wrong with that). Like he did with the horror genre in The Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror, Jaymes Thompson is determined to put a fresh, funny, sexy and outrageous spin on classic professional wrestling with The PGW - Pro Gay Wrestling! From the Rainbow clad Champion Gay Avenger to his nemesis the treacherous Leather-man Trent Danger and his Slaveboy to the angry Gay Republican Gregory Owen Peters to the underwear model Zack Zander to the high-flying circuit boy BJ Sparks to the boy next door- Double T- Tristan Titus to Rex Rhine the German hunk to Jimmy Versace the fierce fashionista to the personal trainer Blaine LaLane, the PGW is filled with over the top personalities, wild story-lines and sexy scenarios- all without crossing the line from entertainment to adult content! Plus you get to see openly gay men in designer wrestling gear saying mean things to each other! Can you say Gay Vendetta? Isn't that worth the price of admission alone?
OKAY, I'M IN. HOW CAN I HELP?
Make a contribution to this Kickstarter campaign - the minimum pledge is just $1! Not only will you feel the glow of satisfaction that comes from helping a truly independent film project get made, you'll also get a reward for backing us! Take a look at the right side of this page for a list of the fantastic rewards we're offering.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
Contributions will go toward development and pre-production costs for The PGW - Pro Gay Wrestling, specifically the costs to secure a studio and a PERMANENT Wrestling Ring! This has been the biggest hurdle in moving forward with production for a full season of PGW episodes. We have multiple Emmy nominee Production Designer from Hell's Kitchen, Robert Frye attached to the PGW! So we already know our PGW Studio is going to look Incredible!
If we exceed our goal, we'll be able to increase our production values and hire more talent. Our goal is to start small and good, then to build upon that. Aren't you dying to see Gregory Owen Peters aka GOP take on the Rainbow masked Gay Avenger? Click the green "BACK THIS PROJECT" button above to make it happen!
HOW ELSE CAN I HELP?
Get the word out! Grab our widget (gosh, that sounds dirty!), post it to Facebook, blog about us, send tweets. The more people who know about this project, the more likely we are to reach our funding goal.
