Metafora is a compilation of visual art (including photography) from Greater Toronto Area high-school students, that attempts to bridge the gap that our words sometimes leave behind. Too often, visual art in youth anthologies are overshadowed by poetry and creative fiction. The goal of Metafora is to celebrate the talent of GTA youth and provide a unique outlet for emerging artists.
The completed book will be a 30-page 6x6 hardcover flush-mounted art book. Artists will be able to submit copies of their work online over the month of May and early June, from which a dedicated team of editors will select 20-25 pieces. The theme is: "beyond words". All rights are reserved by the respective authors. Work titles, names, and ages will included in the book.
We'll then register for an ISBN with Library and Archives Canada for distribution to libraries—including Toronto Public Libraries and Markham Public Libraries—and bookstores in mid-June.
Our printer is based in Shanghai and is ready to receive orders on demand. Each book will cost $34 to print. Ships within a week or two.
Finally, a reception will be held for all contributors and backers to celebrate the launch of the first Metafora book, sometime at the end of June. Metafora is completely non-profit, and any leftover funds that are not used toward marketing or printing will go toward a sequel publication.

Risks and challenges
We are confident that there is an abundance of talent in GTA high-schools—we just need to find them. The hardest part will be getting the word out to contributors. Our plan is to promote the project via various channels including social media, news outlets, public libraries, art councils, and arts teachers. By pledging your support, we will be able to take on bigger promotional campaigns.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
