I believe in stories.
I believe stories make our lives better. They ground us. They tell us something about ourselves. They help us to understand the world around us. They tell us about the truth.
We all have stories. Mine may not be as exciting as yours is (or vice-versa), but you and I live different kinds of lives linked through common experiences and cultural similarities. Regardless of where you come from or how old you are, I hope that Surreality can speak to you and capture your imagination.
I began writing my comic Surreality as a way to share my own experiences and the experiences of those close to me in a way that is relatable and understandable to others. I wanted to share my love for all things geek and pop culture while also conveying my heart for strong relationships and character driven stories. The better the characters, the better the story. I ultimately decided that the quickest way to share this story was to release it in a web comic format. Each Monday I post a new page in the ongoing story of Sydney and her friends as they stumble towards maturity.
This kickstarter project is designed to help bring the story of my characters into the print realm. My goal is to release a 48 page graphic novel with stories that are exclusive to that volume and will not be released through the ongoing webcomic. These stories are fun, exciting, and develop my characters in ways that fit so well with the ongoing comic. The exclusivity of the printed book is to assist in bringing in money to support the ongoing Surreality story and its staff of illustrators and myself. That kind of support is desperately needed as the webcomic is available free of charge, for the love of story.
Please consider how you can get involved in making this project a reality.

Surreality is a comic about the two areas of life that all of us must choose between at some point in our lives: adolescence and maturity. The world of Surreality is not filled with costumed heroes or supernatural ghosts and goblins, but rather real people. Moments that seem hyper real or like déjà vu mix with the surreal and dream logic to make Surreality a place oddly similar to our own world… only cooler. The story focuses on Sydney and her friends Chloe and Chase as they attempt to make a life for themselves as well as with each other in a culture of immediate gratification and technology saturation.
Witty, heart-warming, challenging, and real, Surreality is a world of pop-culture, music, real situations, and the questions we all find ourselves facing.
