Field Tested; Survival Approved

Throughout the past year and a half, we have come a long way and have developed market ready prototypes that have been throughly field tested. During this journey we have spent countless hours with CAD software, turned a drill press into an end mill, sacrificed several kitchen knives, super glued our fingers together, caught fish, and started lots of fires. We have met and corresponded with several vendors and have positioned ourselves for the next milestone. Quotes are in, plastic mold injection tooling, custom labels, and custom survival cord are ready to be made. We are grateful and excited that you are joining us in this endeavor.

X-Ray of Fishing Hook in Braided Cord

We came across a survival braid made of Paracord…then it hit us, let’s make it truly useful and functional. The inner core of Paracord is typically composed of many nylon strands that may be used as emergency fishing line…but last we checked we never caught a fish without a hook…so we fashioned in a bait hook and took it from “could be used as” to “can be used as fishing line”. Mike was so excited that he convinced his dentist to take this X-Ray of it. Thanks Dr. J. Ipson!

The evolution continued at the buckle with the ability to effectively create fire.

Print and Raw Material for Prototype
Print and Raw Material for Prototype

We bought ourselves a hunk of plastic, made some prints and put an end mill bit on a drill press and somehow it worked out.

With machined parts, modified buckles, and some Krazy glue the buckles were taking shape. Yes Krazy glue does effectively adhere fingers together

Noelle was out of town which gave Mike free rein in the kitchen. With the help of a Dremel tool, Mike made a sacrifice to the Kitchen God and the ideal striker was born.

Production Concept and Patent Drawing Views
Production Concept and Patent Drawing Views

With many of fires started, we had a great proof concept. Next came design and drawings for production buckles along with submittal of patents. This unique buckle that will give anyone the ability to create fire generating sparks!

Prototype 2: Rapid Prototype and More Knife Sacrifice
Prototype 2: Rapid Prototype and More Knife Sacrifice

We found a plastic rapid prototype company that hooked us up with a great looking product. Then back to kitchen. …the Mrs was very forgiving when she came home to less and less knives in her kitchen set. Love you Honey.

We had our logo placed on the striker and the fire buckle was ready for some survival cord!

We tried a couple different materials and found the best one. It ignites quick and easy and even dries quick if it gets wet. Just pull it out, fray it up, and hit it with sparks from your fire buckle.

Field Testing: Colorado Blizzard
Field Testing: Colorado Blizzard

This outing was originally supposed to be more lifestyle filming until Mike fell face first in a river in the middle of a heavy snow storm. We were pretty far away from the truck and had to get him warmed up quick to avoid hypothermia. We found a small cave under some large boulders and used my Kodiak survival braid to get a fire going. Genuine smiles of warmth!

Whether your in a real survival situation or just lighting your camp stove, you'll never forget your KODIAK survival braid because it's always on your wrist.

Prior to starting this project we conducted patent searches and throughout this entire project we have been very diligent in protecting our intellectual property, it has been an incredibly fun journey and we are stoked for the opportunity to now share it with you. Thank you for your support!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

We understand that a timely fulfillment of rewards is extremely important to our backers. We have already identified time and resources needed to complete this project. We have cultivated relationships with reputable US companies and have honed our jigs to expeditiously assemble these Kodiak Survival Braids. We understand the fulfillment requires team work and a good plan…a living plan that we can adjust for growth. We have made connections with individuals in the textile industry and know that we can expand with growth. We are committed to a quality product.

We are confident we can deliver your rewards to you this August, but we ask for a little wiggle room just in case we need to assure a quality product on your wrist.

We are grateful for your backing and stoked to take the KODIAK to market, so you can Live to Talk about it!
