Two years ago, I decided to make the impossible my reality. I wanted a career as a singer-songwriter. I wanted to make music that meant something and said something.
Since then, you put me on the map. You attended shows, shared videos, and told your friends. The result? Nine weeks in the Top 40 on Americana Radio, humbling praise from Rolling Stone and American Songwriter, first place in the Woody Guthrie Songwriting Competition, and performances at AmericanaFest, Music City Roots, and SXSW. Without you, none of this would have been possible.
And I haven't stopped working. Writing dozens of songs, playing hundreds of shows, and driving thousands of miles per month. I'm doing everything I can to improve myself, my voice, and my songwriting.
The new album dives even deeper into the well, touching stark subjects from warnings of false prophets and politicians to the loss of loved ones. My goal is to let the lyrics shine along with my voice. Expect to dance, shed a tear, and even let out a chuckle.
It's time to take this to the next level. I'm asking you to go above and beyond what you would give for an album. The songs are ready - all they need is you.
Additionally, I will be donating 5% of our funding to the Variety Care Foundation. Variety Care is a community health center on the front lines of the health care crisis in our country. With 17 health centers in Oklahoma, Variety Care served 104,000 individuals with 296,000 primary care visits in 2016 alone. Between being a patient myself and serving on the Board of Directors for three years now, I've developed a passion for the affordable access to quality care that Variety Care offers.
Risks and challenges
Without risk, there is no reward. I know we can meet this goal. Between you and the hard work of my team, we will make it.
We start recording in September. It is always a challenge to get a record out by a particular date, but we believe our estimates are correct. I pledge to communicate regularly, so you always have an idea of where we are in the process.
Will we release vinyl???
The short answer is: yes, eventually.
We plan to release vinyl, but it isn't part of this promotion. Vinyl has a sizable up front cost, and we need to get the album recorded first.
