About this project
Prepare yourself for the evolution in a new genre in gaming: the world's first fully featured Emergent Reality Game (ERG). Think of it as reality's expansion pack.
In your hand, you hold technology that reveals an unimaginable new layer of reality. A secretive organization – EDC – needs your skills and feet on the ground to detect and neutralize anomalies in the space-time continuum. These “anomalies” threaten the very fabric of reality and are breaking out all over the world – your world.
The action is taking place in your city – even, literally, in your backyard.
In Clandestine: Anomaly, you’re not a character in a fictional world: you are you, and your mobile device is a window into another layer of reality that is encroaching on our own. The world of Clandestine: Anomaly is all around you.
For over a year, we've been working to build an incredible new game that we believe finally fulfills the massive potential of AR. Unlike virtually every other AR game developed so far, Clandestine goes beyond gimmicks – AR is the foundation of development. We have perfected its implementation to create an epic, story driven game that you play in your own neighborhood. You are the main character, and the front line is everywhere...
In Clandestine, you interact in real time at real-world locations with 3D Augmented Reality characters and situations.
Using GPS and Augmented Reality technologies your neighborhood is populated with 3D interactive characters and scenarios. Each player will experience the game as unique, one-of-a-kind story. Game design triggers help the game learn not only where your closest park is, but what locations matter to you most. No two players will every experience the same game twice.
Throughout the game, you'll collect alien nanotechnology, and parts programs through both missions and geocaching. Merging the two, you'll assemble, and customize probes, utility drones and three story tall weapons for defense and attack.
Through tower defense gameplay, you will literally defend your own community from attack.
You'll program and deploy arrays varying from alien creatures to futuristic war machines. After you strategically deploy your units, you will watch the epic battles play out in real time in the sky above you.
In recon mode, you can command your arrays to focus their attacks on an enemy, call in an air strike, or recharge and repair them.
Strategy is the key to victory. How you manage your resources and deploy your units will effect your success.
Clandestine's core narrative takes place within campaign missions.
Story events, quests and side missions are setup in much the same way an open world game or modern RPG would be. You can communicate directly with in-game characters via text, phone, video message, and right in front of you in AR. The decisions you make and your personal style of game play affect character interactions as well as determine game events.
As you succeed, you’re promoted to higher and higher clearance levels, and given access not only to new missions and intel, but new and more powerful technologies.
Discussion trees help you communicate with characters, your responses and conduct effect their level of trust, and determine the course of the game.
We've created a unique set of game extending merchandise that, while not necessary to game play, highly enhances the experience. We have products ranging from maps that act as secret view screens to deliver video messages to shirts that show your unique personal profile information and rank, and much much more!
We are designing a game that’s playable anytime and anywhere, offering you the best kind of flexibility for where and how you play. Though the game is ideally experienced outdoors, the campaign supports remote play.
By sending probes and drones players can participate in missions without being in those locations, however there is a cost as sending drones is both more expensive and less powerful than going to a mission personally.
Being on the scene yourself allows for the use of powerful recon weapons, is cheaper and makes sure that you have a first hand knowledge of events.
Unlike all other AR games, we aren't using the technology as a tag-on or gimmick. From the beginning, Clandestine was developed with AR at the core of game play. This is the first fully featured, narrative focused Augmented Reality game, and we've worked hard to push the technology and genre to its ultimate potential.
Clandestine's unique combination of GPS, AR, & RPG creates an experience so convincing and feature rich that it goes beyond what any imagined possible with these technologies. Our goal is to create a console like experience on mobile, using your world as the backdrop. It’s a game that leverages everything mobile has to offer to craft a truly mobile experience.
This is a revolution, not only in gaming, but in how we tell stories.
Your choices affect the outcome of the game.
It all starts with a mayday hail from a damaged alien vessel that hacks your phone, demanding your help to find a safe crash site. This event not only draw earth into a hidden intergalactic struggle, but puts you at the center of Earth's defense.
Clandestine is centered around themes of entropy, and what must be sacrificed for humanity to survive and flourish. It is set in a universe on the brink of collapse. With you as the central character, the story doesn’t ask who we are, but poses difficult questions about who we want to become, and what we’re willing to sacrifice to survive. Can humanity rise to the challenge? The direction and path is yours to decide.

Augmented Reality is one of the most remarkable things that an iPhone or mobile device can do, but the possibilities it presents have yet to be comprehensively delved into, especially when it comes to mobile gaming. We’ve spent over a year developing the technology for Clandestine, pushing the boundaries of AR as far as possible, and we’re not done yet. With your support we can not only show there is demand for these types of games, and bring our first game to market, but continue to push AR further by integrating even more Environment data into the game.
We’re turning to Kickstarter so that we can maintain creative control of the project, as we know our vision and refuse to let it be muddied or watered down to suit a bubble-gum game marketplace. Currently, we’re wrapping up our prototype build, and if we meet our goal we’ll be able to polish and refine that build. If we’re lucky enough to exceed it, Kickstarter will play a key role in funding the game's production, the more you give, the better the game will be.
50k isn’t enough to complete the game, but using Kickstarter along with other funding channels like the Canada Media Fund allows us to create the game we want without compromise and get valuable feedback on what you want. The more you give, the more we can put you at the center of an epic.
If we surpass the initial goal, we’ll begin to reveal the many unique stretch goals we have planned that allow us to create an even richer gaming experience, support more platforms and add more new and exciting features.
We believe we are helping to pioneer the next stage in mobile gaming, and want you to be a part of it. We need your help to bring a game the size of the world to every neighborhood on the planet.
Because in this battle the front lines are everywhere.

Risks and challenges
Over the last year, we’ve been treading into uncharted waters to bring an experience like nothing that has come before. We’ve taken a unique approach to story, design, art and technology to build a truly immersive experience. Doing something this technical, and this new, will have pitfalls and setbacks.
Being a small company, we’re very agile. So far our approach has been to strategically utilize high-quality contractors to help knock down any walls we encounter. If we can’t do it, we have a track recording of getting the people who can.
So far we’ve risen above every challenge we’ve faced, and with only 3 months of hard coding, we’ve been able to accomplish everything you see here. Over the next year, with the foundation laid, we’ll be able to accomplish so much more.
While designs and features may change as the technology progresses, we have a team supported by many industry professional committed to shipping a high quality experience.
Our physical reward items will be fulfilled by or before our estimated delivery and we’ve taken great effort to ensure we can manufacture and ship all the items we’re offering. As you can see in our video, we’ve already created many of the rewards.
With the Vita, we're working to do everything we can to bring this game to Sony's amazing handheld console. However, we need to meet Sony's approval before being certified to develop. This is an ongoing process that we're already engaged in. Supporting this Kickstarter helps let Sony know its users want this type of experience on their system.
Fortunately, we have friends in the community who are certified Sony developers that are eager to bring this game to the Vita. So no matter what, we have the people and teams capable of offering you an amazing Vita experience!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
