About this project
We're excited to introduce you to ZKOO (zee-koo) — the world’s most responsive and accurate hand gesture tracking camera. ZKOO delivers High-Speed Vision technology to the living room with a fun and unique new way to play and interact with hundreds of your existing games and apps.
ZKOO's unique features include:
- Fast (extremely low latency), accurate, and robust gesture tracking captures your hand gestures from a distance of up to 10 feet.
- Simple gestures translate into “Air Touch” controls, allowing you to interact and play your existing mobile games and apps in a brand new way.
- Use your hands to type words directly into the TV screen without a remote, keyboard, or mouse.
Out of box, ZKOO allows you to control hundreds of existing Windows and Android games and apps without any modification, including popular titles such as Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja, Candy Crush, and more.
With ZKOO, you can turn your Windows PC, Android Set Top Box, Tablet, and smart phones into fun and exciting motion gesture-controlled devices. ZKOO gives you the freedom to play and interact with your games and apps hands and touch-free.
You can also use ZKOO to manipulate many graphical applications. Our "Air Touch" technology emulates tablet and smartphones’ multi-touch UI with hand gestures, including hover, click, drag, and pinch and hold.
Additionally, ZKOO works with business applications, such as Powerpoint. Use hand gestures to manipulate and run through your presentation.
Additional ZKOO features:
- Sits on the top of TVs with a flexible clamp mechanism, and also has an optional screw hole to fix on to tripods.
- Super simple and quick setup — just plug the ZKOO into your device’s USB port, launch the ZKOO software, then launch a game or app and you are good to go!
To set ZKOO up, simply plug the supplied USB cable into your Windows PC (desktop, laptop, or PC Stick) or Android device (such as an Android set top box) and then connect the device to your TV with HDMI.
The fact that we already have funding from our investors makes this an unconventional Kickstarter campaign. This money is being used to help us continue to develop and explore the core High-Speed Vision technology we’ve created. So you might ask then, why are we on Kickstarter? We believe the Kickstarter community is the perfect place to begin reaching out to our future users. You are visionaries who are genuine, curious, and influential, and we want to give you an unprecedented opportunity to be the first to experience ZKOO. With your backing, we will be able to immediately go into production and have units ready for shipping in April 2016.
We’re excited to invite you to join us on our journey in creating the world’s most responsive and accurate gesture tracking camera. Let us know if you want to be a part of this exciting opportunity by backing us at any tier.
Exvision is the creator of ZKOO. We are a spin-out venture of Ishikawa-Watanabe Laboratory at the University of Tokyo, established in January 2009. Our focus is on developing and commercializing unique and innovative applications based on Hi-Speed Vision core technology.
Exvison’s Hi-Speed Vision technology is a proprietary type of computer vision technology. It takes advantage of images at higher frame rates than conventional video rates. The conventional video rate is 30-60 frames per second (FPS), but we use 100 FPS or higher. Thanks to our algorithm optimized for high frame rates, Hi-Speed Vision detects, tracks, and analyzes fast-moving objects with far lower latency and higher accuracy than anything that’s come before it. It enables capturing images that could not have been done with conventional computer vision technology. This High-Speed Vision technology is at the core of the ZKOO camera.
You might have already seen our High-Speed Vision technology at work. Our most famous demonstration of it is our "Rock, Paper, Scissors" (aka "Janken") robot that wins every time.
1st Stretch Goal !
With a new goal set at $30,000, we will publish a set of changeable hand cursors. Currently the ZKOO hand cursor is fixed as a generic icon. Once we achieve our new stretch goal of $30,000, you will be able to choose your favorite icon from the ZKOO library that will include three sets of icons: Kids / Young-Adult / Professionals.
The Kids set will feature cartoon-related icons, based on themes from top games. The Young-Adult icons will be futuristic, high-tech oriented, and for general purpose. The Professional icons are simple but sophisticated, suitable for controlling power point presentations and other business applications.
This new icon library feature will apply to all the backers including those who have already pledged.
We appreciate your support of ZKOO and hope you will continue to support this campaign.
2nd Stretch Goal!
Thanks to all your help, we reached our first stretch goal in a matter of 5 days!
With the first stretch goal reached, we would like to implement our second stretch goal — a special feature to track shapes! With this, your ZKOO will be able to track pre-defined shapes, such as circles and stars. Since ZKOO can detect the speed of objects, it can assign different velocities to different commands. If you move it slowly, it's HOVER and can't cut fruits. Then if you move it fast, it's TOUCH and can cut. This is also a great add-on to those who may want to develop new apps based on shape-tracking functions.
Our second stretch goal is set to $50,000, and we'll reveal shortly what we have up our sleeves. With close to a month remaining, we’re confident that, with your help, we’ll be able to reach that goal and beyond to bring even more functional greatness to ZKOO.
Risks and challenges
Although we've already completed the hardware prototype, electronic and mechanical design, and software for the camera, there are possible slight risks in delay of manufacturing. The manufacturing process involves a lot of elements, such as testing, adjustment, and authentication. We already have engaged with experienced manufacturing companies and have laid out a plan to build the camera and go into production in March. We are confident and comfortable with the schedule. There can be, however, unexpected issues that may come up during the actual production process. We will be extremely transparent during this process to ensure you know where we are at every step of the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
