Supernatural Comedy for the 21st Century
The Triplets Of Kings County is a comedy series created by NYC comedian/filmmakers Michael Wolf, Colin O'Brien, and Terence O'Brien based on an idea they came up with once. The show incorporates equal elements of surreal absurdity with slapstick plainness, a cartoonish world where mundane problems are spun into a strange oblivion. It revolves around the adventures of three identical 18 year old triplets from a small Midwestern town who move to New York after the mysterious death of their parents. Unwittingly, the triplets move into a haunted apartment and enter a world of mildly annoying supernatural beings.
The six episode first season was released in 2014 with a Halloween special released in the fall. Both were produced on the favors of kind friends and without a budget.
We've spent the spring and summer hard at work writing a second season. It's bigger, louder, and more colorful and we're asking for your help to bring it to life. We've punched the numbers and the numbers punched back loud and clear, in order to make season 2 as big and loud and colorful as we want, we'll need a budget of $8,123.59!
Season 2 will be 9 episodes. Each script is about 10 pages, which is about 90 pages worth of filming.. about the length of a typical movie (wow!). Last year we filmed over the course of four separate weekends. This time we hope to do it all in one week!
What to expect from Season 2??
We have big big things planned. Here are some highlights scripted in season 2:
- Wolf becomes Greece's biggest action movie star, "The Ball Puncher". (One punch to the balls from him, and it's lights out for you!)
- A fleet of alien Andy Warhols arrive in a UFO and become disruptive neighbors
- The triplets attend TWO John Mayer concerts
- Billy Corgan comes back and then leaves. Also, an innocent man is murdered.
- Edward The Ghost investigates his death and finds out it was.. murder.
- The triplets fight off a new nemesis, "The War Machine". Guess what, he's tough!
- The triplets turn 19 *spoiler*
- ...Wolf also becomes immortal
$8,123.59 is a lot of money!
Yes. We agree. It's a lot. But here's where that money is going..
Equipment: When renting camera and sound equipment, the price can add up pretty quick. Luckily we have some good friends who we plan to rent from at an affordable rate.
Location Fees: We have some crazy stuff scripted. Some of it would be even crazier if we had the ability to shoot in public spaces. Your contributions will help us acquire permits to shoot in local business' and public spaces.
Set Dressing/Costumes/Props: Your contributions will allow our production designer, Ruby Hannan, to go to work creating the most ridiculous stupid funny awesome costumes and props to be seen on screen since Mad Max a a few months ago.
Post Production: Along with purchasing the necessary hard drives, we'll be seeking the assistance of 1-2 editors to help us cut the footage.
Food: When filming, it's customary for productions to feed their cast and crew. We'll be providing one meal and light snacks for a cast and crew of about 10 people everyday for a week.
Cast and Crew Stipend: Last season our talented cast and crew worked for no money. This time we hope to provide them with a small stipend as compensation for their hard work and make it easier for them to commit to the project.
Kickstarter/Amazon Fees: Kickstarter charges a 5% fee to all projects that meet their goal. These funds will be released to us via Amazon Payments who will charge us a 5% credit card fee toward the amount that Kickstarter releases to us. It costs money to raise money too!
Colin's Overdue Library Books: It's gonna be bad news if he can't pay that off. Whole lotta Judy Blume's stacked up.
Season 1 Accolades
The first season garnered accolades from multiple New York City culture publications including Brooklyn Magazine and Brokelyn.com and was an official selection in the 2014 Yonkers Film Festival. We've recently partnered with Roku channel "Brooklyn On Demand" to begin streaming the series free of charge.
Okay, but really, who are you?
Michael Wolf is a writer and performer in New York. During the day he makes shorts for MTV, and produces the video series "After Hours". He also performs in OSFUG and NANCY at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater. He's extremely excited to have two triplet brothers and he hopes some day they'll be conjoined again
Terence O'Brien is a writer and performer living in New York. He works for the Fox series Gotham and improvises around the city.
Risks and challenges
Guarantee Of Completion
Independent filmmaking on a limited budget is always an enormous challenge. It requires countless moving parts to fall in place at the right moment. Luckily we have a creative team who've not only earned their livings in film and television production, but have also been working together (without a budget) for the past couple years. We are confident that our combined work experience and success with previous projects similar in nature will allow us to complete production on schedule while adhering to our budget.
It's impossible to know exactly when the second season will be complete. We're fully committed to putting it out into the world in a timely fashion. We'll keep you updated every step of the way!!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
