After touring 50,000 miles & playing 150 shows last year, our current van is on its last legs, and we need your help to get a new one.
We are Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, a nine-piece soul rock band from Brooklyn, NY. We've been touring the country constantly over the last year opening up for bands like The Black Keys, the Neville Brothers, moe., Dr. John, and the Rebirth Brass Band. In 2011, we traveled over 50,000 miles and played 150 shows in 28 states, including festivals like Bear Creek, Gathering of the Vibes, JazzFest, and Catskill Chill. Now we need your help to keep our wheels rolling in 2012. All those miles have taken a toll on our beloved Ramada van, and it's finally gotten to the point that we can't rely on her anymore. The breakdowns we endured last year cost us thousands of dollars in repairs and rentals and forced us to miss several performances.
We're releasing our new album, Pound of Dirt, on February 28th, and we want to be able to get everywhere we need to go to spread this music all over the country. Our current van has been great to us, but we need something more reliable as we look forward to a really busy year of touring: Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble, official showcases at SXSW in Austin, Telluride Jazz Fest in Colorado, the main stage at Mountain Jam, a return to JazzFest in New Orleans, several trips to the Midwest, the South, the West Coast, and everywhere in between. And that's just the beginning...
Before we bought our current van, we toured in two vehicles: a borrowed 2 door hatchback and a rusty conversion van that only started half the time we put the keys in the ignition. We almost did a Kickstarter campaign last year to try to fund our Ramada van, but we needed a new van right away, so instead we ended up maxing out our credit cards to stay on the road. Now that our Ramada van is breaking down, we're left with no other option but to turn to you - our beloved friends and fans - and ask for help.
Nine of us, and all our gear, in one van with no trailer -- that's how we roll. We are probably one of the most efficient and economical bands on tour today. We don’t need a castle on wheels, just something that can get us safely from one place to the next. But we can't afford one without your help, so please donate to our Kickstarter campaign and let us show you our gratitude by offering you a ton of personalized Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds exclusives not available anywhere else.
We would never have come this far without your support. You’ve been there for us since the beginning and we're so thankful to have you as part of our family. Let's make 2012 the dirtiest year ever!
