Synthesis is my love letter to video essays and breaking the 4th wall. It will contain a collection of mini-rpgs about creating new meaning from text, looking from different perspectives, and metatextuality, in a 5.5" x 8.5" handmade zine format.
The zine is going to have a very handmade, DIY aesthetic, and I don't want to give away all my plans just yet (because they're very cool and I need to figure out what works before I commit to anything specific) but the cover will be made of something unique, and the title will be stamped on with a custom stamp. A huge part of my desire to make this zine was my love of crafting that I had forgotten in recent years, so I'm very committed to making the print zine as unique and interesting as I can.
You can read a draft preview of two of the games that will be featured in the zine right here!
My stretch goal is to put a few small pieces of writing and art based on playtests of the games, so extra funds will go to paying people for that. I'd like to get at least 3 creators and pay them at least $25, so if/when the project hits its goal I'll start looking into those logistics in earnest. UPDATE: I have five contributors for this project as of now, see update #2 and update #5 for more details.
If you're interested in receiving more than one copy of Synthesis, don't hesitate to message me on here or dm me on twitter (link below).
Risks and challenges
I'm not partnering with any other groups that would complicate this process, so there isn't much to be worried about. The only risk is that I get a bit bogged down in schoolwork this semester, but I'm far enough in my classes now to be confident that won't be a problem. Plus, this campaign will end a few days before my spring break, where I'll have a whole week to get everything printed and shipped!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
